The Naperville Police Department will be conducting a roadside safety check on Friday, June 21.
The purpose of the safety check is to identify motorists who choose to drive while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. During the roadside safety check, officers will slow traffic, stopping cars at predetermined intervals. The enforcement initiative is designed to insure that area roadways are safe for those who choose to drive in compliance with the law.
In 2011, motor vehicle crashes killed 918 people in the state of Illinois. 282 of those deaths involved a driver impaired by alcohol.
The Department is committed to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving and removing impaired drivers from the streets. Everyone has the responsibility to drive sober, to wear his or her safety belt, to avoid distracted driving and to not drive aggressively. Celebrate Safely.
