The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for DuPage County and the Chicago area beginning late Wednesday afternoon and ending Thursday morning.
According to the NWS, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected and area residents are encouraged to take precautions – especially in areas around creeks, streams, bridges, roads and viaducts. The rainfall is predicted not to exceed a few inches and not approach the levels of April’s flood, but water levels in low-lying areas could flood extremely quickly and should be avoided.
The storm, developing in eastern Iowa, southern Wisconsin and northwest Illinois has the potential to produce baseball size hail, tornadoes and strong winds up to 75MPH. The storm will be the most severe between 6 and 11PM, as it moves through DuPage County and the Chicagoland area.
Naperville residents are also reminded to be informed and can access up-to-the-minute forecast information by visiting the National Weather Service website at www.weather.gov.
