Summer Place Theatre performs “The Man Who Came to Dinner” / 8PM / The comedy, “The Man Who Came To Dinner,” written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart will open the Summer Place theatre season. Performances will be held in the auditorium at Naperville Central High School, 440 W Aurora Avenue in Naperville, Illinois. Showtimes are 8PM Fridays and Saturdays and 3PM Sundays, June 7-16.

Tickets are $17 for adults, $14 for students & seniors, and $10 for children age 5-12. Season tickets are available at reduced prices, and group discounts are also available. Naperville Garden Club presents a Garden Walk / Naperville & Aurora / 9AM – 3PM / The Naperville Garden Club will host a Garden Walk on Sat., June 8, featuring seven (7) gardens in Naperville and Aurora. The cost is $10 in advance thru June 7 and $12 at the gardens.

  • The Growing Place Nursery located at 25W471 Plank Rd. in Naperville and 2000 Montgomery Rd. in Aurora.
  • Buikema’s Ace Hardware located at 963 W. 75th and 1030 N. Washington St., both in Naperville.

North Central College 148th Commencement / 10AM / North Central College’s 148th Commencement ceremony at 10AM Saturday, June 8, is expected to draw more than 5,000 parents, alumni and visitors to North Central College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center, 440 South Brainard Street. Tickets are not required, but seating is on a first-come, first-served basis so guests are encouraged to arrive early; doors open at 8:30AM for guest seating. The academic procession begins at 9:40AM.

OMT_Frankies_June_8 (1)OMT Benefit Concert at Frankie’s Blue Room / 7:30PM / Homegrown One More Time of Naperville will perform a free concert to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at Frankie’s Blue Room in downtown Naperville, 16 Chicago Avenue.  An acoustic set begins at 7:30PM with the full band performing at 8:30PM.  For more information visit www.onemtime.com.

Incredible Insects at Morton Arboretum / 11AM – 4PM / Bugs can be gross, weird and very cool! Get an up close look at giant Madagascan hissing cockroaches, leaf-mimicking praying mantis and a tarantula named Cecil. Visit the bugs in the Children’s Garden at Morton Arboretum, 4100 Route 53 in Lisle, to meet these incredible insects and build a bug of your own to take home! Athleta Esprit de She Triathlon Naperville / 7AM / Formerly SheROX Naperville, Athleta Esprit de She Triathlon will begin at Centennial Beach.  Be aware of street closures throughout Naperville.

Casey’s Fires up the Grill / 10AM – 2PM / Casey’s Foods will begin firing up its grill every Saturday and Sunday through October at Naperville Plaza, Gartner and Washington. Purchase reliable stand-bys — burgers, brats, steak and chicken tacos, etc. — and enjoy grilled specials every weekend throughout the summer and fall. Picnic tables provide seating under cover, too.

History Speaks: John Philip Sousa – The Leader of the Band / Join veteran actor and historian Terry Lynch as he portrays the “March King” John Philip Sousa from 4 to 5PM Sunday, June 9 at Naper Settlement’s Century Memorial Chapel, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Hear the story of how a 13-year-old boy runs away to join the circus, becomes the band master of the United States Marine Corps Band, conducts the President’s own Marine Band under five presidents, and writes 136 military marches along the way!
