Anderson’s brings back ‘Give Me Summer! Give Me Books’

-

Known for its many reading programs geared toward children throughout the year, Anderson’s Bookshops again are offering a summer reading campaign this year for readers entering grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8.

Grinch Party

Give Me Summer!  Give Me Books! offers a six-book reading challenge.  Mix and match from six suggested titles with up to three of your own picks, read those six, and come back to claim your just reward.  A grand prize will be announced after the August 15 conclusion of the program.  There will be a prize drawing for very special school author visits.  One author visit will be awarded per reading level.

The goal is to create a vibrant community reading program that brings independent bookstores and schools together to read great books and build a strong community of readers.

How Kids Can Participate:  Registration is open and free for Give Me Summer! Give Me Books!  Kids just need to come to one of the Anderson’s Bookshop locations and pick up a summer reading bookmark.  Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville is located at 123 W. Jefferson Ave. 630-355-2665, and Anderson’s Bookshop in Downers Grove is at 5112 Main St. 630-963-2665. Each bookmark includes the featured book titles, all carefully selected for each grade group by booksellers: six books for each grade level.  (These featured books are available for purchase at a 10% discount from Anderson’s Bookshops.)  We suggest that you buy at least two books from Anderson’s Bookshop to participate.  Additional books of the reader’s choice may also be included.

To complete the summer challenge, kids need to read six books total.  Young readers can return their completed bookmarks and claim their prizes. This year, we will be rewarding our summer reading champions with books, book bucks, other kid-friendly prizes, and a chance at the Grand Prize drawing to win an author visit for his or her school!

Readers may be asked to take the program’s Summer Reading Pledge:

I pledge to seize these epic books,

in my favorite independent bookstore, which is in America,

and to seize the SUMMER (for it is awesome),

One summer. Full of books.

With liberty and good reads for all!

Seize the Summer Books and Carpe Librum!

For more information about the summer reading program, contact Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville at (630) 355-2665 or Downers Grove at (630) 963-2665.  Anderson’s Bookshops specialize in book sales, author events, book signings, and building a sense of community, learning and fun.  The store has been helping suburban readers for six generations.

In 1878, Oswald’s pharmacy began selling books as a service to customers.  So successful was that side of the business that it became an independent entity in 1964.  Based in downtown locations, the stores have grown with their communities ever since.

Two Doors East, Anderson’s Naperville gift shop, opened in Fall 2009.
