Bronze sculpture will be unveiled in Exchange Club Veterans Plaza / 2PM / The Naperville Riverwalk Commission, Century Walk Foundation, Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 and American Legion Post 43 will host a public dedication of the new Fallen Soldier Sculpture in Exchange Club Veterans Plaza on the Riverwalk at Jackson Ave., just east of Webster St. The bronze sculpture, which depicts a soldier’s boots, rifle, helmet and dog tags, will be unveiled to honor those lives that have been lost on the battlefield. Concert follows in Central Park at 4:30PM. The U.S. Army Band will play at the Community Concert Center at 4:30PM at Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave.
The Exchange Club Veteran’s Plaza was built as a part of the Riverwalk’s rehabilitation in 2008. The original design of the plaza called for the inclusion of a small sculpture to honor fallen soldiers. Due to the cost, the sculpture was eliminated with the understanding it would be added in the future. With support from the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 and American Legion Post #43, the Century Walk Foundation was able to obtain the necessary funding to purchase and install the sculpture. For more information about the Riverwalk, visit www.napervilleriverwalk.com.
