A story of hope for people and nature will be told at The Conservation Foundation’s Spring Membership & Awards Luncheon, being held Wednesday, June 5, 11:30AM to 2PM at Cantigny’s Le Jardin Restaurant , 1S151 Winfield Rd. in Wheaton.
John “Ole” Oldenburg of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will discuss the recent restoration project done on the West Branch DuPage River, one of the Midwest’s most extensive urban stream restorations. This extensive cleanup, a collaborative effort across many agencies, including DuPage County Stormwater and the Forest Preserve District, removed radioactive thorium and restored a section of the river to its more natural state. It was an extraordinarily complex project which included multi-agency cooperation and support. In the end, the DuPage River is “healing” from past disturbances and stands today as one of the great urban ecological restorations ever undertaken in our region.
The Conservation Foundation will also be presenting the Sustainable Development Awards, Clean Water Awards and awarding Environmental Scholarships at this luncheon. All are encouraged to attend this time of networking and inspiration for the future of our environment among the beautiful gardens of Cantigny.
Cost to attend the luncheon is $35/person for Members of The Conservation Foundation and $50/person for Non-Members. Tables of 8 are $250/table for a Member Organization and $375/table for Non-Member Organization.
