Now in its second year, Camp E.D.G.E. offers a new and different camp experience for teens during one-week sessions running in June and July.
Offering a choice of four different weeks geared toward two age groups, Camp E.D.G.E. (educate, develop, give, experience) is designed to help prepare teens for the real world while they learn about responsibility, cooperation, teamwork, leadership, goal setting, problem solving, conflict resolution and the rewards of giving to others.
Kids finish the week with a sense of accomplishment and develop skills that will help them in years to come.
Campers will participate in supervised volunteer activities at local not-for-profit agencies like Feed my Starving Children, DuPage Children’s Museum, Naper Settlement, Green Earth Institute, a senior living center and others. At each site they will hear about the mission of the agency and the impact they make in the community. They will also partake in experiential learning activities at challenge courses and rock climbing venues such as Irons Oaks Adventure Center and the Lattof YMCA High Ropes Course.
The week is rounded out with an adventure based field trip such as canoeing, hiking at Starved Rock, fishing at Blackwell Forest Preserve among others.
Camp Edge will be offered during regular camp hours from 9AM to 4PM June 6-10 and June 24-28 for youth entering grades 6-8 as well as June 17-21 and July 8-12 for youth entering grades 9-11. Regular camp hours will be extended to accommodate working parents.
