Every May, parents start planning activities that will provide structure to the long summer days that loom ahead – after all, no one wants the kids becoming coach potatoes. A natural place to start is by browsing through the Naperville Park District program guide.
If you are the parent of a child with special needs, you can request inclusion support from Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) if you choose to enroll your child in a Naperville Park District program. Another option is to enroll your child in one of WDSRA’s programs that are designed especially for those with disabilities. There are a multitude of recreational opportunities being offered this summer through WDSRA. These include, sports, art, music, dance, social clubs, trips, special events, and much more.
For some WDSRA families, the idea of keeping the coach potato at bay is not just a seasonal issue. For adults with disabilities, recreation might be their only source of daily structure once they age out of the educational system. Truthfully, many WDSRA parents have been “signing up” their children for our programs for over 35 years. Families depend on us for fun, meaningful recreational experiences that can provide their loved one with positive social interactions that build confidence, self esteem, and keep them engaged in life.
