Naperville Central High School students will present “The Wiz” beginning at 7:30PM Fri., April 26. The curtain will go up on additional performances at 7:30PM Sat, April 27 and 2:30PM Sun., April 28.
All three performances will be staged in the Naperville Central High School Auditorium, located at the corner of West Street and Aurora Ave., with plenty of parking.
“The Wiz” is the retelling of “The Wizard of Oz,” but in the context of an urban culture. The 1975 Broadway production won seven Tony awards, including Best Musical, and inspired a hit Hollywood movie in 1978, starring Michael Jackson and Dianna Ross. The music stands the test of time, with songs like “Ease On Down the Road,” “Everybody Rejoice (Brand New Day),” “I Was Born On the Day the Before Yesterday,”“Slide Some Oil To Me,” “Be A Lion,” and “Home.”

All seats are reserved and now on sale: Adults are $10 / Students and Seniors are $8.
If patrons would like to choose reserved seats in advance, tickets will be sold during all student lunches (10:30AM–1PM) at the new NCHS front entrance school days. Tickets also available one hour before each performance at the auditorium box office door.

Editor’s Note: When we lived in New York City, we saw Stephanie Mills perform the role of Dorothy on Broadway, a role later played by Diana Ross in the movie version. The words and music still give us chills every time we hear them performed. NCHS Producer/Music Director Curt Parry noted the song “Home” is on YouTube. The song is just one of many in the score that will create a wonderful theater experience for all ages right here on stage in Naperville. Plus, since Parry told us about the upcoming performances, we’ve not been able to get the music out of our head! Great musical entertainment for the entire family!
