Flood waters receding: PN travels along the DuPage River

-

The DuPage River crested and water levels slowly began to recede  Saturday afternoon.  PN traveled along the DuPage River documenting the effects of the past week’s heavy rainfall.

Upstream, the Fawell Dam demonstrates the shear force of Mother Nature.  The flood gates are open and residents are reminded to be careful near floodways.

Along the Riverwalk, in midstream Naperville, the DuPage River has receded several feet.  Centennial Beach flooded and water is being pumped out of the old quarry.  Downtown Naperville was bustling with motorists, walkers, photographers and brides to be attending the Downtown Wedding Walk, Saturday afternoon.

Downstream, the DuPage River was calmer at Knoch Knolls.  The foot and bike bridge are now open to pedestrian traffic and Naperville youth can now play frisbee golf, complimented by excessive water hazards – many surrounding fields remain flooded.

PN Ombudsman
An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
