NCC hosts annual Intersection day of service April 20

-

Intersection, an annual day of service in the community, is one of many reasons North Central College earned a spot on the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

NCC_squareThis year’s Intersection is set for Saturday, April 20. For seven years, North Central College has coordinated Intersection and been a leader in rallying families, church groups, businesses and other volunteers in the community, and its students, faculty and staff to participate.

Saturday’s kickoff begins at 7:45AM at two locations: Madden Theatre on North Central’s campus in Naperville and at Grace Pointe Church in Plainfield. Volunteers serve from 9AM to 3PM and can choose from among 22 different service projects; many projects are family-friendly. Cost to participate is $5/person and capped at $20 per family and includes breakfast and lunch. North Central College student registration is free.

Volunteers may sign up online at intersectionregistration.eventbrite.com. Among the projects are helping run a youth sports program, cleaning school playgrounds, serving at a food pantry, collecting food donations at local grocery stores, painting, running a fun fair with special needs children and their families, packing food for starving children, assisting with activities at a nursing home, doing landscaping and cleaning and much more. Site locations are primarily in Naperville and Aurora, but also include Bolingbrook, Plainfield and Joliet.

North Central’s Office of Ministry and Service is coordinating the event along with Grace Point Church. Whitney Roberts, North Central’s assistant director of ministry and service, says Intersection is about collision-the collision of people and community needs that produces not only short-term results but long-term relationships. “When you join Intersection, you can be sure you’ll get something done and you will meet some great people,”  said Roberts.
