When Hart saw her earlier paintings for the first time in a long while after returning from an exhibit, she looked at them as old friends. But over the next few weeks as she looked at them, she felt they looked tired and maybe a little lost. At that moment, she decided they needed more layers of space, depth and an infusion of color. “This show is all about my new vision,” Hart says.

“There have been several times in my career where I had moments—epiphanies, if you will—that changed the way I saw my paintings. These epiphanies have changed the way I painted. This exhibit is my first showing of work following one such moment.”

Born in Leavenworth, Kan., Hart started to draw and paint at age 4. Her formal instruction took place at multiple schools, including the Art Institute of Kansas City. She received her bachelor of science degree with a specialization in painting and her master’s degree in art education from Ball State University.

Hart has worked professionally for more than 10 years showing her works at numerous museums, galleries and art centers around the country. Partnering with galleries, her work has been collected by members of the past two U.S. presidential administrations, rock musicians and major corporations. She has received numerous awards and recognitions.

For gallery hours or to learn more about the exhibit, contact Nickole C. Lanham, North Central’s gallery director, at (630) 637-5375 or nclanhammurray@noctrl.edu.

Art, art history and art education are among more than 55 undergraduate majors offered at North Central College.
