This month’s dining experience took me to a family favorite in Naperville, the DuPage Children’s Museum.
I originally began going to the DuPage Children’s Museum when it was located in Wheaton. I was happy when they moved to Naperville in 2001. The Museum is a full day of fun through education focusing on math, science and art. The interactive exhibits make you feel like you are part of the over-all experience.
After you have worked up an appetite, you should visit The S.M.A.R.T. Café. They’ve incorporated teaching into their name which is very cool (Science – heat transforms, Math – making a pattern, Art-color delights, Reading – cooks reads and Technology – food moves).
The theme of this new restaurant is eat + learn + grow. The restaurant is just like the museum, children-based, but is also for adults.
What I decided to eat was a Monte Cristo—grilled cheese, turkey, ham, American and Swiss cheese on white bread. The sandwich was toasted to golden perfection, cheese melted and the meats were just the right hotness. The sandwich comes sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with a side of raspberry preserves. The sandwich also came with a side of natural potato chips— from all different types of potatoes.
There is also a side bar that is self-served for items such as milk, apple juice, juice box, orange juice, water, yogurt, fruit and vegetables. In addition, the side bar offers desserts like muffins, freshly baked cookies and ice cream novelties.
There is a great choice of healthy entrees at The S.M.A.R.T. Café for all to enjoy. Hope you get there to Eat, Learn and Play soon!
The DuPage Children’s Museum is located at 301 North Washington St.
