Spring Break Camps, Egg Hunt, Élan Dance Company Showcase and more

Within a few short weeks melting snow will reveal the first bulbs of spring, setting the stage for the welcome events of the season. The Naperville Park District is planning free and low-cost special events for all ages, and reminds residents that registrations are now being accepted for popular activities including youth baseball and spring break camps.

This event is free and open to ages 1-8, with no registration required. Parents are advised to be on time, as the eggs disappear quickly. Donations of non-perishable food items in non-glass containers are welcome.

The Naperville Park District is offering two additional egg hunt events: the first is the Flashlight Egg Hunt for kids ages 9-13 and the second is the Spring Egg-stravaganza for preschoolers ages 2-5.

The Flashlight Egg Hunt takes place the evening of Thursday, March 28 at the Wigwam at Knoch Knolls, located at 336 Knoch Knolls Road. Pre-Registration is required for the Flashlight Egg Hunt. Participants need to bring a flashlight and a basket for the eggs. Refreshments will be provided.

The Spring Egg-stravaganza will be held on Saturday, March 30 at Seager Interpretive Center, located at 1163 Plank Road. Pre-Registration is required for the Spring Egg-stravaganza. The event includes games, stories, crafts, snacks, and an egg hunt.

Also returning this spring is the annual Élan Dance Company Showcase held at 5:30PM on Sunday, April 7 at Naperville North High School Performing Arts Center, located at 899 N. Mill St. This is an event for all ages, featuring an eclectic collection of dances from classical ballet to jazz to modern dance. Tickets are available at www.napervilleparks.org, at the Park District Administration Building at 320 W. Jackson Ave., or at the door. Élan Dance Company is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.

With spring break just around the corner, the Park District offers a wide variety of spring break camps, including camps for kids ages 2 through 17. Some of the camps meet full days or half days Monday through Friday and some meet for shorter periods of time for 1-4 days. Special interest camps include sports (badminton, baseball, basketball, bowling, gymnastics, track & field, and volleyball), fine arts, computer (video game and web design), rock climbing, dodgeball, science (All About Squid and Octopus), and engineering with Lego blocks.

For those looking forward to the 2013 gardening season, there are plots still available for rent at the West Street Garden Plots. Full size plots are 19 by 30 feet; half size plots are 19 by 15 feet. A map of the available plots is on display at the Park District Administration Building at 320 W. Jackson Ave. Registration forms for garden plots must be submitted in person or mailed to the Naperville Park District.

Registration for the special events and camps is ongoing both online and by mail, by phone, or in person. To register online or to learn more about the programs and facilities of the Naperville Park District please visit www.napervilleparks.org.
