My family loves music so much we can taste it. No, really.
As a family, we have made it a point to have a special meal together every Friday evening at our favorite Mexican restaurant, Las Palmas of Naperville, located at 1150 E. Ogden Ave. But, sometimes we just aren’t close to home and we have to settle for something different.
This particular evening, we visited Grandma in Berwyn and thought we’d give the local establishment a try. The Mexican cuisine was indeed authentic and seemed to be a nice alternative, until my 15-year old put in his two cents.”
“Dad,” he said, ‘This doesn’t taste the same without the mariachis.”
You see, our Fridays are usually filled with mariachi music from a very talented duo that strolls the floor at Las Palmas. Aside from the food being top notch, the Las Palmas mariachis are two of the best I’ve seen. So, I fully understand his comment and agree.
I’m no scientist, but I would say that when certain food is accompanied by certain music, the palate is stimulated accordingly.
Fast forward to a couple weeks later…
We had the good fortune of dining at Maggiano’s Italian restaurant. As we enjoyed our calamari appetizer and moved onto our savory entrees, it was my 12-year old daughter this time around.”
“Dad,” she said, “The guy singing makes the food seem more ‘real’.”
As my wife rolled her eyes and I smiled proudly. I agreed that there wasn’t anything quite like Chicken Saltimbocca while being serenaded by Sinatra.
