Giordano Dance Chicago was founded as the original jazz dance company in 1963 by legendary dancer and choreographer Gus Giordano. Now under the direction of Nan Giordano, Giordano Dance Chicago has brought the excitement of American jazz dancing to audiences worldwide, delivering high energy, high impact dance that is as thoroughly entertaining as it is moving.
Continually expanding the boundaries of jazz dance while diversifying the repertoire, the group has received critical acclaim for its new works. It serves as host performing company at Jazz Dance World Congress, which has been held at the Kennedy Center and other noted venues worldwide. In 2004 the company received a Chicago Dance Award for its production and performance of Ron De Jesus’ “Prey.”
Widely acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, Giordano Dance Chicago was hailed in Dance Magazine as “a burst of sheer dance joy that left the audience breathless and ready for more.” Patrons can even join Giordano Dance Chicago for a thrilling after-performance ballroom master class in the theater lobby.
After 50 years based in Evanston, Giordano Dance Chicago recently moved its rehearsal/teaching space and administrative office to downtown Chicago, joining several other dance companies based at the American Rhythm Center. “Dance in Chicago will be the heartbeat of the entire country,” Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.
Giordano Dance Chicago has active outreach and education programs, teaching more than 300 science and health classes in three underserved Chicago public schools each year. Visit giordanodance.org to learn more.
