Off the Shelf – Book dates on calendar

-

While glancing over the community calendar on Positively Naperville’s website, I noticed a variety of fun events listed for the upcoming weeks, including musicals, fish frys and fundraisers.

mcorriganwebSeussical the Musical, based on the books by Dr. Seuss, will be performed each Saturday in February by Kidz Kabaret. Dr. Seuss books are some of my favorite books to read to young children as they are filled with silly characters and rhyming verse. Pull out your old copies of Horton Hears a Who!, The Lorax, or The Cat in the Hat before heading off to see the musical with your family. Or on your way out stop by the libraries to see the Century Walk sculptures of the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch and Sam-I-Am.

During the Lenten season, Judd Kendall VFW hosts a Friday Night Fish Fry. This popular event runs Feb. 8 through March 29. Belgio’s Catering provides the menu along with a children’s option. The weekly events are nice opportunities to plan get-togethers with family or friends.

School Districts 203 and 204 will be hosting the 11th Annual Hockey Shootout to benefit American Cancer Society in the evening on Fri., Feb. 8. The next night, the Naperville Jaycees raise money for local charities with their annual Mardi Gras celebration. Both events have information and websites listed online on the Positively Naperville community calendar.

Don’t forget the West Suburban Irish’s Emerald Dinner. The Emerald Dinner event helps raise funds for Naperville’s St Patrick’s Day parade and St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Be ready to be entertained by Irish dancers, bag pipers, bid on auction items, and dance to the music of Cirrus Falcon on Sat., Feb. 23.

The Naperville St. Patrick’s Day parade will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year on March 16. Go ahead and flip your calendar page and jot it down.

“Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one” —Dr. Seuss
