Award-winning singer and actor David Burnham presents “Mostly Broadway,” a special evening of cabaret on Feb. 24 at North Central College.
The performance begins at 6PM Sunday, Feb. 24, in North Central College’s Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $35 and $30; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.
“Mostly Broadway” showcases songs from classic and modern Broadway, including such hits as “As Long As You’re Mine” from “Wicked,” “Love To Me” from “The Light In The Piazza,” “Feeling Good” from “Roar of the Greasepaint” and “I Have Dreamed” from “The King and I.”
Burnham first gained critical acclaim when he was chosen to replace Donny Osmond as Joseph in the national tour of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” In Chicago he originated the role of Charlie in the world-premiere stage adaptation of “Peggy Sue Got Married,” and he starred as Peter in the national touring production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
Burnham’s Broadway stage credits include the role of Fiyero in “Wicked,” and he was a member of the original Broadway cast of the musical “The Light In The Piazza,” which earned six Tony Awards. He performed during the nationally televised broadcast of the Tony Awards that year and on the PBS telecast “Live From Lincoln Center.”
Off-Broadway, Burnham stared in “The Best Is Yet to Come—The Music Of Cy Coleman” with Jason Graae, Sally Mayes, Julia Murney, Billy Stritch and others. On film, David was the voice of the Prince in the Warner Brothers animated feature “The King & I” and can be heard as Willy in Disney’s “Home On The Range.”
The Chicago Reader says “David Burnham is terrific…he’s a textbook heartthrob with a glorious tenor.” Burnham received the 2007 Helen Hayes Award for best actor and the 2007 Garland Award for best actor for his portrayal of Fabrizio Nacarelli in the national tour of “The Light in the Piazza.”
Burnham regularly performs with symphonies across the country and his solo concert has been seen in the United States, Canada and Europe. He has recorded two solo albums, his self-titled CD and “One Day.” He works extensively with children through vocal and acting workshops and hosts a summer program for young artists called “Camp Sing.”
