Real News — Resolved to resolve

-

During a check up about a month ago, Dr. Know-it-all, who by the way looks too healthy to be seeing a bunch of sick people all day, said that my cholesterol was a bit high and that I should start (1) eating better and (2) getting more exercise.

I already eat a lot of great stuff like donuts, chips and Gorgonzola cheese. Step 1 complete! I’m batting 500.

Unfortunately walking to one’s car twice a day doesn’t appear to be the exact amount of exercise on Dr. Know-It-All’s prescription. That is why I am again resolving to get more exercise.

So I began with this story. I started looking at different health club and health facilities.

During my search I came across The Fry Family YMCA, located at 2120 W. 95th Street in south Naperville. Built in 1995, the Fry YMCA put on an addition in 2000, which set the total building under roof at more than 50,000 square feet.

Under roof is a double gymnasium, free weight room, personal training center, two group exercise studios, cycling studio, babysitting room, preschool rooms, locker rooms, an eight-lane pool with whirlpool, steam room, and coed sauna.

“The Y offers a unique family focus. It’s not just a gym and swim. We do things in the community to help out folks who need help. And that’s what makes us a charitable organization,” said David Hannaman, Chairman of the Fry YMCA Board of Directors.

And they are not done growing. A current expansion—including two preschool classrooms (to be used for licensed partial and full-day preschool programs), viewing area in front of pool, family locker room—and more parking is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2013.

“Through this expansion, we look forward to off ering families more privacy through the addition of a family locker room, and will be able to better meet the needs of the youngest members of the YMCA through our two new preschool classrooms,” said Judy Ellertson, Executive Director of the Fry Family YMCA.

Considering Dr. Know-It-All’s Number 2 prescription, this story turned into quite an exercise. I walked well over four miles just doing the research! So, Doc, let’s just say I am well on my way.
