Equal Fun for Everyone — The metaphor of the tree: imagine

-

WDSRAJoin me, my friends, for a metaphorical journey through the forest: Imagine human potential blossoming in 2013 – right here in Naperville.

Imagine Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) as a tree, with deep roots in the community that were planted 36 years ago by founders whose vision of Equal Fun for Everyone was combined with a solid mission: The development of individuals through recreation. Our full-time staff is like the sturdy trunk that supports hundreds of part-time staff and volunteers that branch out into the community providing quality recreational programs and services to individuals with special needs. (Our programs are housed in 33 locations in Naperville alone). And then, of course, the leaves on our tree would be the participants themselves – reaching, growing, and thriving due to the support given by the rest of the tree.

Imagine a young man competing as a serious athlete, even though he is missing a leg. Imagine a teen with a developmental challenge taking a Zumba class in an atmosphere of acceptance. Imagine a new friend for a lively teenager who happens to be on the autism spectrum. It is doubtful that these individuals could blossom at full potential if it were not for the WDSRA “tree.”

Whether you know someone with special needs or you are looking for a way to give back to the community, we invite you to learn more about WDSRA. We serve children, teens, and adults through recreational programs such as adapted sports, social clubs, trips, fine art, camps, Special Olympics, and much more. We also provide inclusion services for park district programs at no cost to families.
