The best gift

-

It goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway. You were someone’s best gift.

During this wondrous time of year when focus turns to the innocence of children who believe, we yearn to find kindness, comfort and joy in the faithful songs of the season we learned in our youth. We are grateful for loyalty, fond memories and the attitudes of gratitude that surround us.

We appreciate all who enjoy reading this publication.

In light of the fact that a sculpture of a Dr. Seuss character now welcomes readers to all three Naperville libraries as part of the Century Walk of outdoor artworks, we’re mindful of connections. For instance the Grinch sculpture at the Naper Boulevard Library serves to remind us that some “Grinches” pop up at Christmas time, distracting us from our jolly good time.

Several months ago, Naperville native Becky Anderson suggested a promotion that features The Grinch. On the heals of a popular summertime event “Where’s Waldo?,” members of IndieBound Naperville embraced the idea and now have hidden images of The Grinch on their shelves, too, to help raise positive awareness about small independent business community throughout Naperville.

While some folks enjoy shopping, we’d rather pause to appreciate life’s simple pleasures at a local restaurant.

We are blessed to be served by many independents throughout this remarkable community. We’re mindful to dine locally whenever possible and to support small businesses, the nation’s leading job creators.

Many times the magic of season is accompanied by a peaceful stroll under the grand illumination of it all—north, east, west and south throughout neighborhoods in our city. We appreciate that so many residents and businesses take time to decorate. This holiday season, PN’s gift to readers is a tour of the 2012 Naper Lights.

Finally, remember that there’s no present like the time. Give it to someone with love and kindness.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
