Greetings to PN – December 2012

-

Most recent greetings posted at the top.

As 2012 draws to a close, I extend the best wishes of the Loaves & Fishes board of directors and management team for a happy new year. The greatest thanks that I can offer you for your compassion and service to our community comes from the hearts of the friends and neighbors we serve together. I am pleased to share this lovely message of hope from a family deeply touched by your generosity.

“We came to Loaves & Fishes for food at first. We were in need because my husband was laid off of work on 7-30-12. Next we heard of career services and food stamps. My husband received help with a resume and got a job with the help of Loaves & Fishes. Now our family is doing much better, and we thank God for Loaves & Fishes service. People helping people. Thank you.”

Thank you, God bless you, and Happy New Year! —Charles P. McLimans, Executive Director/CEO

Santa Visit / Downtown Naperville Experience: I took my two grandchildren (ages 3 & 5) to the Santa house on the Riverwalk. We had not been there before. The experience was really very nice. We arrived right at 4PM, which is when it opened and were let into the house so we were out of the wind and with the space heater in the house, it was comfortable. There were about six families ahead of us and we did have to wait for about 25 minutes, but that was because Santa really took his time with all of us. (Secret details regarding wish lists have been edited here!)  When the door opened to the Santa room, he said ,”Come in Kayla and Braden, sit on my lap and tell me what you would like me to bring you.” They were mesmerized. He was quiet and calm and talked to them quite a long time. We also had a picture taken, which turned out very well. It was so much fun seeing them interact with Santa.

When we left there, we walked up to Anderson’s Book store and let them pick out a book or toy. We then walked up to Naper Nuts and Sweets and along the way, they wanted their pictures taken with each snowman they saw. After a prolonged shopping time in the candy store, we walked back to Lou Malnati’s for pizza. …On the way home (they live in Glen Ellyn) we drove by some of displays. We had such a nice evening, and I am sure it will be something they will remember. Naperville is really such a great town and we are certainly glad that we live here. Hopefully, they will continue the Santa tradition. —Sandy Phelan
