North Central College will showcase work by local artist Laura Lein-Svencner in an exhibit Jan. 13 through March 7.

The exhibit is free and open to the public Jan. 13 through March 7 in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville. Lein-Svencner will greet visitors and give an artist’s talk during a reception from 6 to 8PM.  Tuesday, Jan. 22; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Lein-Svencner, of Darien, works in drawing, printmaking, sculpture, papermaking and collage. She seeks inspiration from various other artists and is a member of many local and international collage groups.

Beginning with paper—found in recycling bins or handmade from plants in her backyard—Lein-Svencner sands, alters, abuses and manipulates. She forms textures adding gesso, molding pastes and acrylics, sometimes adding hand-pulled stitching with thread and beads.

“Visual entities grow out of self-discovery, and new compositions stem from the need to take risks and explore,” she says. She is fascinated by the many ideas that flow through each piece, stimulating the need to gather and research the many aspects of collage still not exposed.

Lein-Svencner co-founded the Midwest Collage Society, which exhibits throughout the Midwest region. Her works have won many awards and most recently the 27th Annual Juried Exhibit with the National Collage Society. Currently, she teaches her techniques of collage at LaGrange Art League and Naperville Art League.

For gallery hours or to learn more about the exhibit, contact Nickole C. Lanham, North Central’s gallery director, at 630-637-5375 or nclanhammurray@noctrl.edu.
