Naperville Park District traditions benefit Loaves & Fishes

-

The Turkey Shoot Golf Tourney and Pennies for Pies again drove a harvest donations for Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry.

Participants in the Nov. 17 Turkey Shoot at Springbrook and Naperbrook Golf Courses continued the tradition of donating the cash equivalent of their free turkeys to Loaves and Fishes, generating a total donation of $1,105 for the Thanksgiving food drive.

Similarly, over the past two weeks Naperville Park District preschoolers, their families, and the community contributed enough pennies and small change to donate 130 pies for the Thanksgiving meals provided by Loaves & Fishes.

“This is our third annual Pennies for Pies food drive initiated by our preschool teachers and students, and we are happy that the community joined them in sharing even small gifts so that others could enjoy a special holiday dinner,” said Program Manager Sandie Gilmer.

The Turkey Shoot golf tournament also encouraged generosity, and with a record 284 participants this year, the cash donation topped last year’s contribution by 28 percent.
