Count down is on until 7PM when Naperville polls close

-

For the first time ever on a General Election Day, we stopped by Fifth Avenue Station late this afternoon.

At 4PM voters were lined up practically out the door at the entrance where voting booths and one electronic voter machine were set at the Lisle Township polling places.

Election Judge Orinthea Smith gave encouraging instructions one at a time to voters who wanted to try the electronic voting machine, though most voters opted for the traditional  manual paper ballot.

Smith said that as of 4:20PM, 913 voters had cast a paper ballot manually and 124 voters had used the electronic ballot for a total of 1,137 voters with about three hours remaining.

Until 7PM, Naperville registered voters  can cast ballots for choices of candidates to serve  in DuPage and Will counties, Springfield and Washington, D.C.

Steady turnout so far

Election judges  reported a steady stream of voters during the first ten hours. In fact, Smith said they’d run out of “I voted today!” stickers and they were waiting for more to be delivered.

It takes just a few minutes to be prepared!

Be a prepared and educated voter by getting to know the candidates and propositions listed on the ballot before you head to  the polls.

Editor’s Note:  Practically overnight, the landscape became planted with thousands of campaign signs for candidates. Thanks to all, win or lose, for taking down all  signs down just as quickly after the election.

Thanks, too, for the bit of levity among all the campaign signs and other vehicles on the road promoting candidates.  When the touring vehicle with the replica of the Colonial Kitchen Sink was stopped in traffic near one of the polling places, we  couldn’t help but think, “We all scream for ice cream!”
