Singer, Gabriela Sevilla and guitarist, Alejandro Mora will perform works from their best-selling CD, Aranjuez Ma Pensee, on Saturday, October 20 at 7:30PM in Naperville. The event kicks off a series of high-caliber, international concerts to be held at Good Shepherd Church, Naperville, located at the corner of 75th St and Shepherd Dr.
The warm, vibrant music will take listeners on a journey through the rich history of Hispanic composers. According to Craig Parsons, Director of Worship at Good Shepherd, “The concert is a rare opportunity to hear the world-renowned Sevilla-Mora Duet in a local venue. Both music lovers and students of Spanish and Mexican cultures will enjoy the event.”
A reception will follow the concert with opportunity for autographs and to purchase the CD. The program is presented by Good Shepherd at no charge as a service to the community. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Ms. Sevilla is a classical mezzo-soprano who has performed as a soloist with many leading orchestras in Mexico including the Orquesta Filarmonica de la Ciudad de Mexico and others. Her versatile talent has been demonstrated in the realms of opera and choral performances as well. She was host of a television show focused on orchestral performances in her native Mexico for 6 years. After moving to Naperville with her husband and two sons, Ms. Sevilla joined the professional choir, New Classic Singers of College of DuPage. Last year, she was soloist with Good Shepherd church’s Festival Singers in the world premiere of Kinley Lange’s “Agnus Dei”. She was invited by the Mexican Consulate in Chicago to sing the Mexican anthem at Daley Plaza for the World Cup soccer opening and, most recently, to present a concert with Alejandro Mora as part of 2012 Chicago Latin Festival.
Mr. Mora is an award-winning guitarist who appears in Juan Helguera’s book, La Guitarra en Mexico, as one of Mexico’s most outstanding guitarists. In recent years, he has collaborated with Ms. Sevilla to present concerts in North America and Europe. He has won prizes for the best interpretation of the music of Juan Helguera and Ernesto Garcia de Leon, which he received from the hands of the composers themselves. He has been a member of the Guitar Orchestra of Xalapa since 1996 and has traveled the world doing solo and group concerts. Mr. Mora is co-founder and co-director of the guitar academy Arte a Seis Cuerdas in Xalapa, Veracruz. He resides in Veracruz, Mexico with his wife and daughter.
