The Grand Entry of all the dancers was held early today with another performance at 7PM and again at 1PM on Sunday. Catch special Exhibition Dances throughout the weekend.
Saturday afternoon blessings for the land of America and heartfelt tributes were expressed in appreciation to all veterans from many cultures who have served the nation. Mayor George Pradel provided a gracious welcome to all.
This year, Twilight actor Chaske Spence, pictured Saturday afternoon in the Gazebo with enthusiastic fans, will appear for photos until 4PM and again from 6PM-8PM today as well as from 1PM-4PM on Sunday; normal event admission fees would apply. Spence plays lead werewolf Sam Uley in “The New Moon” and “Breaking Dawn,” and he attracted a long line of folks eager to meet and greet him.
In addition, an 18 foot tipi is on display alongside a wigwam. Native storytelling and Native flute player, Al Jewer, will add to the festivities.
The Children’s Area, open from 11AM-4PM both days, hosts crafts; games; flintknapping (making arrowheads), hands-on cleaning of animal skins and other educational activities for all ages.
Be sure to bring a camera. Teachers and youngsters dressed in native attire enjoy telling about their heritage and posing for photos.
Admission to the Pow Wow including access to the Naper Settlement buildings and museum (during regular museum hours) is $8 for adults and $5 for Seniors (62+) and children 5-12. Children under 5 are FREE. Discounts are available to groups of 10 or more and two-day admission tickets. The admission fee will go to support Midwest SOARRING Foundation and its programs.
