-

The Naperville Crime Stoppers inaugural Running Scared 5K Costume Run and Walk is set to begin at 8AM Saturday, Oct. 27. Early registration for the fundraising event to heighten awareness for crime prevention is open now until October 1.

The early registration cost is $30 for adults and $20 for kids 12 and under. After October 1, the cost is $35 for adults and $25 for kids.

Early registrants will receive an official race shirt. Racers can visit www.crimestoppersrunningscared.com to register.

The start and finish is near St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 2220 Lisson Rd. in Naperville with parking in the lot adjacent to the church. It is suggested that racers arrive 30 minutes prior to the race start with costumes.

Costumes are encouraged and many Halloween themed activities will complement the race. McGruff the Crime Dog will be present to cheer on racers. The race is being held in coordination with National Crime Prevention Month which is every October.

The Naperville Crime Stoppers is a crime prevention program geared toward public involvement in the fight against crime. It provides an avenue which permits and encourages citizens to contribute to the safety of the Naperville community.

The Crime Stoppers offer anonymity to people who provide information about crimes and pay rewards when the information leads to arrest. Anyone can submit a tip by calling the Naperville Crime Stopper Hotline at (630) 420-6006.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
