July and August have been very interesting at Dog Patch. We’ve been working with a wonderful group out of Oklahoma named Save Our Strays. These folks travel around Oklahoma pulling dogs out of high kill shelters and driving them north to folks like us who will find them homes.
During the last week of July and the first three weeks of August, we took in 29 puppies from them. More than half have already found homes and by press time I suspect they may all have. We have a long history of handling puppies and when we found these rescue pups all of our training kicked in.
Unlike many rescues that are a 501(c)3 charities, we rely on the success of our retail store to fund the rescue of dogs and cats we take in. Shopping at Dog Patch allows our rescue effort to continue. If enough of you shop with us, we will continue to grow our commitment to rescue animals.
Now here’s a quick Daisy update: My rescue dog Daisy has been with us a year. She was my inspiration for our change at Dog Patch. She has become a huge part of our lives. She walks up to 4 miles a day. She loves Benny the horse at DanadaForest Preserve and seems to be loving her new life.
I can’t imagine a day without her.
