2012 Post / The DuPage-Will Hadassah will host its First Author’s Luncheon beginning at 12:30PM Sun., Sept. 23, at La Sorella di Francesca Restaurant, located at 18 West Jefferson Ave. in downtown Naperville.
The luncheon fundraiser kicks off the first of what organizers intend to be an annual event. This year’s guest speaker will be historical novelist Melanie Benjamin.
Featured in “O” magazine and on National Public Radio author, luncheon publicists noted that Benjamin “brings the best in historical novels, extremely well researched backgrounds to the readers in her first novel, Alice I Have Been, a story of poignant tragedy and endurance. It is a smoking magical mirror into the life of the real Alice in Wonderland in Victorian England”
Benjamin also wrote The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb. Diminutive and standing barely 32 inches Vinnie, the future Mrs. Tom Thumb, is a product of mid-19th century. A Smart and unyielding Vinnie becomes part of the P.T. Barnum’s oddities. She jumps at her chance, but at what cost to her.
The cost is $36 per person which includes a dinner-level lunch with the proceeds going to the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel. This medical center will be dedicated this year with 500 beds, 20 operating rooms, 60 intensive care bed and an ultra-modern Heart Institute.
Hadassah hospitals do trailblazing research into stem cell treatment, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinsons’ disease and Alzheimers. The hospital treats Jews, Arabs and Muslims.
Hadassah is a volunteer women’s organization, 330,000 strong, which has a partnership with the land and people of Israel. Besides supporting Israel, Hadassah makes a difference locally with health education programs, activism on issues through advocacy and community projects.
