10-part TV series on Catholicism will be shown at St. Thomas beginning Sept. 5

-

The public is invited to discover the full meaning of the mystery that is Catholicism when a 10-part television series about the religion is presented this fall at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.   Featuring images from the sacred lands of Israel to the beating heart of Uganda;  from the shrines of Italy, France and Spain to the streets of Mexico, Kolkata and New York City, the acclaimed series, “Catholicism,” will be screened from 7-9PM  Wednesdays, Sept. 5 – Nov. 14, in the Lighthouse room in the church. No session will be held Oct. 31.

Each session will include a screening of one segment in the series that has been termed “a visual catechism,” and discussion will follow. Among subjects in the series are the teachings of Jesus; Mary, the Mother of God; Peter, Paul, and the missionary adventure; the mystery of the liturgy and the Eucharist; and the communion of saints.

Participants will learn what Catholics believe and why while being immersed in the art, architecture, literature, music and the global treasures of the Catholic tradition. Guide for this journey of a lifetime is its creator: author, speaker and theologian the Rev. Robert Barron, a priest of the Chicago Archdiocese who was recently appointed rector of Mundelein Seminary by Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Father Barron traveled to more than 50 locations throughout 15 countries while working on “Catholicism.”

Filmed in high-definition cinematography and produced by Word on Fire, the ministry of evangelization of Father Barron, “Catholicism” has appeared on EWTN. Some segments also were aired on WTTW channel 11 this spring.

Registration in advance is highly recommended to assure adequate seating is available, and free-will offerings will be accepted at the door.

St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church is located at 1500 Brookdale Road.
