Loomis Street Railroad Crossing will be closed for maintenance August 24-31

-

The Loomis Street crossing of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will be closed for one week while construction crews perform track maintenance at the crossing.

The closure is scheduled to take place beginning at 9AM on Fri., Aug.  24 and ending at 6PM on Fri., Aug. 31, pending weather and unforeseen circumstances. The crossing will be closed to both traffic and pedestrians for the week. While repairs are taking place, the City will also be replacing defective sidewalk at and near the crossing.

A pedestrian, vehicular and bicyclist detour will be posted and can be viewed by visiting the project webpage at www.naperville.il.us/BNSFLoomisclosure.aspx.

The 5th Avenue pedestrian underpass will remain open while construction is taking place. Due to the close proximity to the Naperville Metra Station, motorists should plan ahead and expect traffic delays in the area. Work at the crossing will not affect the Metra train schedules.

This project is also being coordinated with work that is ongoing for the Columbia Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project, which is located a few blocks east of Loomis Street. The sidewalk on the Columbia Street Bridge will not be closed while the Loomis Street crossing is closed for construction work. Additionally, temporary lane closures on the bridge will be kept to a minimum and only during non-peak traffic hours. For more information about repairs on Columbia Street Bridge, visit www.naperville.il.us/columbiabridgerehab.aspx.

All construction is weather dependent; notice of schedule changes as well as more information about the project will be posted to the City’s website, in the City’s Commuter Connection eNewsletter and Road Closure and Construction alerts, in the local media when possible and at the Naperville Metra Station prior to construction.
