Calling all apple pie bakers!  Whether your favorite recipe is served with a slice of cheddar cheese or a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, there’s still time to enter Naper Settlement’s Apple Pie Contest that will be held on Sat., Aug. 11 as part of the Hometown Picnic.

Pies must use apples as their key ingredient and any type of crust can be used. Judging criteria includes appearance, crust, filling and overall impression.

Deliver your apple pie by noon on Sat., Aug. 11 to the Meeting House, located on the corner of Webster Street and Porter Avenue. Each pie should have an index card with the type of pie, the baker’s name, phone number and/or e-mail address. Judging will begin at 1PM by guest judges. The winner will be announced at 2:30PM at the Naperville Light Guard Band concert. Winners must be present to win because winners will be photographed and posted on the Naper Settlement website and Facebook page. Each baker submitting a pie receives free entry to the Hometown Picnic.

All bakers must preregister by Thurs., Aug. 9 by contacting Jenn Edginton, Learning Experiences Coordinator, at (630) 305-5252 or e-mailing her at edgintonj@naperville.il.us. Please provide the name and type of pie (i.e. single crust, double crust, streusel topping, etc.), the baker’s name, phone number and/or e-mail address.

Judges are Tim West, commentary editor at the Naperville Sun; Stephanie Penick, publisher of Positively Naperville; Mike Krol, chairman of the Naperville Heritage Society board of directors; and Neda Darwish, owner of Sugar Monkey Cupcakes.

Winners will receive a ribbon, baking-related prizes and bragging rights.
