Memories of this year’s Ribfest are still rattling around in my ears. Getting the chance to see Hall Of Fame rockers ZZ Top with my son was an experience neither one of us will soon forget. And, even though these musical heroes sometimes seem immortal to us, the fact is they won’t walk the earth forever. I’m very thankful that my son will be able to share a ZZ Top Ribfest experience with his family someday.
The 25th annual Ribfest hosted by the the Exchange Club of Naperville again will be followed up by the popular Last Fling festival presented by the Naperville Jaycees. Perched upon gorgeous Rotary Hill, in the shadow of our fabulous Millennium Carillon, the Last Fling stage supplies our community with even more first-rate musical entertainment.
This year’s Fling will bring Jim Peterik and The Ides Of March into town on Aug. 31. Peterik was born and raised in nearby Berwyn and has found international success by writing songs for 38 Special, Sammy Hagar, and Survivor, in which he was a key member for 10 years.
Among many other musical guests that include the fun, local favorites 7th Heaven and the legendary Blue Oyster Cult, will be Pat Benatar and her guitarist/husband Neil Geraldo.
A few years back, I was lucky enough to see Benatar with my entire family at the famed Red Rocks venue in Colorado. It was an amazing evening that I have been hoping to revisit ever since.
So, many thanks to the Naperville Jaycees for arranging a Fling with Pat Benatar, a performance that comes very much wife approved.
