The Naperville Diamonds Fastpitch Softball Association hosted the Queen of the Diamonds 16U Region 10 ASA National Qualifier and 18U ASA National Qualifier tournaments in June at the Frontier Park Sports Complex, located at 3380 Cedar Glade Drive, just off 95th Street.
With approximately 700 of the most talented fastpitch softball players competing on 55 of the best teams from the greater Chicago area and surrounding states, Naperville was on display and fans were entertained with 12-hour days of play on eight well-managed fields.
On the Friday morning of the tournament, Mayor George Pradel was on hand to throw out the First Pitch at two Naperville Diamonds teams’ games.
Tournament Directors Mike Vacik and Paul Johnson and the organization’s volunteers were repeatedly recognized for the outstanding coordination and skilled execution of such a high profile event.
Winners of this elite qualifier tournament were awarded bids to compete in the 16U Class A National Championship in Montgomery, Alabama, and the 18U Class A National Championship in Johnson City, Tennessee.
“Congratulations to tournament champion 16U Midland Magic from Decatur and 18U Bartlett Silver Hawks!” wrote Bob Rechenmacher, spokesman for the Naperville Diamonds.
Congratulations also were extended to the six Naperville Diamonds teams that competed in the tournament.
Naperville Diamonds Softball Association is Illinois’ largest youth fastpitch organization.
