City Hosting Informational Meeting on Proposed Code Changes
The City of Naperville will host a public forum on Wed., June 20 that will provide an overview of significant changes that are proposed for the 2012 International Building Code Update.
The forum will be held from 2 to 3:30PM. in Meeting Rooms B & C of the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. City staff will give a short presentation and will be available at smaller work stations to answer specific questions by topic.
Last fall, the City began the multi-step process to update its current building codes. Building codes establish a minimum standard for building construction to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the general public that occupy the resulting structures. The City updates its building codes every six years to ensure the City keeps abreast of what is being used in new technology, materials and trends in the building industry.
The June 20 public forum is part of the public review process that is currently underway this summer. Public input will be followed by recommendations and discussions by the Building Review Board and the City Council later in the fall. Final adoption of the new updates is expected to take place this December. For more information on the process, visit www.naperville.il.us/buildingcodeupdate.aspx.
For those who cannot attend the forum but would like to submit their feedback, the City is also accepting comments about proposed code changes through its online comment form that can be found at www.naperville.il.us/buildingcodeupdate.aspx. Public comments will be accepted until Fri., July 20, 2012.
