Naperville Municipal Band Summer Concert Series continue at 7:30PM Thursdays

Under the leadership of Ron Keller, “Here’s  That Band Again” kicked off the Naperville Municipal Band Summer Concert Series at 7:30PM, Thurs., June 7, on the stage of the Community Concert Center in Central Park.  Clear skies and seasonal temperatures on a lovely evening attracted an appreciative audience that filled most of the park benches.

The summer series has welcomed families to spread out on the  lawn toward the playground equipment along Benton Ave. All along the edge of Central Park folks have been organizing picnics. And others have arranged special parties for families and friends.

Tonight, July 19, the NMB Big Jazz Band will perform beginning at 7;30PM.

During every concert, the Downtown Naperville Alliance will sponsor a raffle featuring four $25 gift certificates to downtown Naperville merchants.  When a young girl’s number was called during the first concert, the jubilant youngster raced up to the stage to accept “A Gift for You,” creating an extra joyful moment for the audience and her sister.

Despite sometimes unseasonably warm evenings, the concerts have attracted a large audience.

Every week at the Central Park Gazebo, a different organization has been hosting the ice cream social with home-baked goodies and other treats as well as beverages for purchase. Tonight’s ice cream social will benefit the Women’s Auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus.

The Thursday evening free  concerts will continue through Aug. 16.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket or find a spot on one of the benches.  Consider dinner at Quigley’s Irish Pub in Jefferson Hill Shops, Catch 35 at Washington and Van Buren or at one of  40 eateries in downtown Naperville before the concert.

Or pack a picnic, call ahead to one of the local restaurants for take out or  order box lunches to enjoy in Central Park.

Help the Naperville Municipal Band celebrate its 153rd year in Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave.
