Jennifer McElroy, from Naperville, recently attended the Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET) 36th annual Student Career Days at Kansas State University. There she received a PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (PLANET AEF) Scholarship.
McElroy received the PLANET AEF Scott Byron & Co. Scholarship in the amount of $1,750. She is a student at Joliet Junior College. Each year, the PLANET AEF awards scholarships to students who are enrolled in landscape contracting and horticulture programs at two-year and four-year colleges and universities across the nation. These schools must have a PLANET-accredited landscape contracting/horticulture curriculum, be a PLANET student chapter member, or participate in the PLANET Student Career Days. In 2012, PLANET AEF presented almost $70,400 in academic aid.
“It was a very distinguished honor to receive the Scott Byron & Co. scholarship with the PLANET AEF. Thanks to the generosity of my donors my dream can become a reality and I can continue on my “green road” to success!” said McElroy. “Thank you to the Scott Byron & Company, PLANET AEF, the PLANET sponsors, and everyone that played a role with Student Career Days 2012!”
This three-day competitive event among students enrolled in horticulture programs featured events that were directly related to the skills necessary for a career in the green industry. The events were designed to challenge students based on current industry standards and judged by green industry companies.
