Meghan Steinbeiss of Naperville was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Political Science Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.
Steinbeiss is a junior majoring in political science and global studies. She is the daughter of James and Isabel Steinbeiss and a graduate of Naperville North High School. When she completes her studies at North Central Steinbeiss plans to pursue graduate studies in political science, earn a doctorate and teach the subject at a college or university.
At North Central, Steinbeiss has been a dean’s list scholar and presented research at the College’s Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research. She’s been active with the group Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), whose members experience the challenges and benefits of importing coffee and other goods from developing countries. NCC’s Best is a student-run business that not only seeks to turn a profit but also raises awareness about socially conscious products.
“We enable the producers to enter global markets and earn appropriate living wages off their goods,” Steinbeiss says. “I enjoy being a part of this organization because it not only enriches my own life, but also the lives of others.”
