Suburban chorus wins regional championship, off to international competition

-

Outgoing Choral-Aires President Martha Anderson and Interim Director Bonnie Fedyski hold the regional trophy for the Sweet Adelines

The Choral-Aires Chorus, based in Elmhurst, prevailed at the Sweet Adelines International Lake Michigan Region Three recent competition, advancing to compete against hundreds of other choruses in Honolulu in November 2013. This is the Chorus’ tenth championship title in eleven years.

The Chorus accomplished this distinction amid the largest leadership transition it has experienced in more than 20 years. In January, longstanding Master Director, Joan Boutilier stepped down and Assistant Director Bonnie Fedyski stepped in to serve as Interim Director. The Chorus Board of Directors also recently underwent annual elections.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled about our performance at regional competition,” says incoming Chorus President Nancy Smith. “Although we are walking through significant transition right now, our members are working harder than ever. The Chorus is growing in both strength and numbers; there is no better place to sing right now than with the Choral-Aires!”

Women passionate about music are invited to join the Choral-Aires Chorus during weekly rehearsals held each Monday from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Redeemer Lutheran Church Recreation Center, 345 S. Kenilworth Ave  in Elmhurst.

Naperville is well represented with singing members  Julie Allerson, Jan Carpenter, Betty Clark, Carmela Kearse, Mary Murphy, Pat O'Shaughnessy, Pat Smith, Anita Smolik, Betty Wilkins and Cindy Warner.
