The Naperville Municipal Band celebrates its 153rd season by kicking off its summer concert series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7, with the theme, “Here’s That Band Again,” featuring the eighth-grade scholarship winners. Ten free concerts are held every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. from June 7 to Aug. 9 at the Community Concert Center in Naperville’s Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave. The band is directed by Ron Keller.

The band is bringing back the popular gift certificate drawings. The first 1,000 audience members to arrive in Central Park will receive a chance to win one of four $25 gift certificates – two from the local merchant supporting that evening’s performance and two from the band. Thanks to the Downtown Naperville Alliance, the following merchants are sponsors including Catch 35, Comfy Bummy, Ellman’s Music Center, Le Chocolat, Occasions and Two Bostons Pet Boutique. The Illinois Music Educators Association is also a sponsor.

The June 14 concert is “René’s Back in Town,” featuring assistant conductor René Rosas. The concert on June 21, “Around the World in 80 Minutes,” celebrates the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts of America and features the Children’s Parade, an opportunity for families to march around Central Park. On June 28, the audience will hear “Sounds from Central Park.

The popular Independence Day Concert will be held on July 5, “God Bless America,” with the “1812 Overture” and Civil War cannons and reenactors.

July 12 is “Old Timer’s Night,” featuring the NMB Alumni Band and Special Guest Conductor James Christensen.

July 19 is “Naperville Big Band Night” with the NMB Big Jazz Band, and July 26 features “René’s Favorites.”

The Aug. 2 concert features “Ron’s Favorites,” and the final concert of the series on Aug. 9 has the theme, “So Long for a While,” with guest cornet soloist MGSY Susan Rider. A free bonus concert on Aug. 16 features the NMB Big Band with special guests.
