Holiday runs April 27 – May 6, Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM, Sundays at 2PM
Charles A. Berglund, of Naperville, is directing Holiday for Grove Players, a community theater group in Downers Grove.
“When I was offered the opportunity to direct Philip Barry’s Holiday, I was very pleased. It is a play I’ve wanted to direct, but I thought the chance would never arise,” said Berglund.
This is Berglund’s first show with Grove Players. His most recent shows include 1776 for Wheaton Drama and The Fifth of July for Theatre of Western Springs. Berglund served as Director of Theatre and Chair of the Speech Arts Department at Glenbard North High School for over 30 years.
“Holiday considers, as one of its themes: Money. What should it do for you? What should you do for it? The characters face choices concerning the role of money and the obtaining of it. Each major character must come to grips with the question of how important money is in their quest to lead a fulfilling life.”
“While all this talk about money sounds like it might become tedious, Holiday presents it as high comedy. Witty, bright, and interesting people exchange clever dialogue in a manner reminiscent of Noel Coward. The plot zips along while a love triangle develops to further complicate the story.”
