We had a great crowd and wonderful night (NHS 60th Class Reunion on August 24, 2007, at the Judd Kendall VFW). All went more than smoothly. A big thanks to you. If I had been more on the ball I would have invited you and had you bring your camera. We had five graduating from the early 30s.

I just wanted to say thank you for the nice coverage of NCTV17 in Positively Naperville. We are so pleased to be a part of PN and were especially delighted to see so many mentions and the nice photograph. Everyone at NCTV17 has really been working hard to try to capture as many Naperville moments as possible - thanks for noticing. Congratulations on your 6th Anniversary!

Considering the stormy weather in August, I question our residents' overall preparedness, in spite of the information they should have received. I especially have some concerns regarding senior complexes.
Two weeks ago I had lunch with my friend in one of the senior residences. I asked about their safety-awareness, and she said "all she knows, is that in the event of a fire, fire-doors will be locked in various areas of the hallways." This is logical. However, when I asked her what she would do in the event of a tornado, she had no idea. The building has a basement, she told me, but they have not had a tornado drill since she moved in a few months ago.
Are we all as aware as we should be? This latest bout of weather should be a wake-up call to all of us, myself included. I keep meaning to stock the bathroom on the lower level with a battery-operated radio, a good book, a flashlight, and some Sauvignon Blanc. Why do I keep putting it off?
---Shirley Pace, 42-year resident
I finally had a chance to sit down and read your August issue. Thanks so much for including the Jewel Shop & Share (Oct 1-3, Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 15-17).
Traverso’s will donate 15% of your bill to the Paige Nicole White Pediatric Cancer Foundation on Thurs., Sept. 6, if you mention our flyer when you dine in or carry out anytime between the hours of 4-10PM. Thanks for helping to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
---Donna Dunckel, Paige Nicole White Pediatric Cancer Foundation, www.pnwfoundation.org
I was just looking at your web site. I have a number of clients within the Internet who are searching online for real estate. I'm looking for a reputable agent or broker that I can direct our clients to.
I do not work as a referral agency or lead broker. I am looking to send real clients to one appropriate agent or broker by showing them a relevant web site visually when they are searching for real estate. Your site definitely looks like strong fit for what we do.
---Robert Carroll, Las Vegas, NV
Thank you for putting the 3rd Annual Burn Awareness Golf Outing in the (online) calendar section of Positively Naperville. We already received a call and auction item due to the calendar! Thanks for publishing our press release in the July edition of PN! I know people really notice when something is printed in PN… it’s definitely the “go-to guide” for Naperville! And… that being said… I’d like to see if there is a time we can get together to discuss possible options for the upcoming fashion show.
---Heather Queen, Naperville Junior Woman's Club
Editor's Note: The NJWC will host its annual fall fashion show, "Cosmopolitan Couture," on Sat., Nov. 3, at the Drury Lane in Oakbrook. INFO: www.napervillejuniors.org

Thanks very much! I really appreciate it (posting the Alzheimer's Association walk on the September online calendar). Positively Naperville! is such a great monthly publication. ... Thanks again for your help and your good wishes. Please come out and join us for the Naperville Memory Walk on Sunday, Sept. 30!
---Teresa Gruber, Event Specialist, Alzheimer's Association - Greater Illinois Chapter
I have been contacted by the Alzheimer's Association who is doing their first ever Memory Walk in Naperville on the Riverwalk on Sept. 30... The Naperville Police Department's Elderly Services Team is having a team walk to raise money for Alzheimer's research and so is the Naperville fire department! This would be great to publicize - do you think?
---Marita Manning
Editor's Note: Registration for the Memory Walk begins at 8AM, Sat., Sept. 30, at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion. The walk is from 9AM to 1PM. See September 30 on the September calendar.
The ads look great. I have had people tell me they saw them in your publication!
---Kevin McCormack
I enjoyed reading about Ronald McDonald House in the Neighbor section of the Daily Herald recently and I thought readers of PN would be interested, too. We have church friends that have a son with leukemia. He is now in remission but while undergoing treatment, they stayed at a Ronald McDonald House saving them hours of travel and energy. It was a big help. A great idea.
Several people I know have been saving the tabs but I didn't ask what for. Probably for the RMH.
I went on line as I wondered what to do with the collection. Locally, Great Clips Salons collect the tabs for RMH otherwise we'd have to take them to the RMHs in Chicago. Check out www.rmhccni.org.
---Julie Corwith
I enjoy reading (Positively Naperville) cover to cover. It's not only "news," --- it's all about people and the good things that make Naperville one of the best places to raise a family. Thanks for being a beacon of light for all of your readers!
---IdaLynn Wenhold
We just came back with family from Door County (You could write a good article about Fish Creek or Egg Harbour). Lots to do. And then I RUSHED to Oswald's to get several Positively Napervilles, and sure enough, my complimentary letter to you was in there. Several people in my church read it. Thank you so much. I hope it helped to get more people, but Labor Day weekend people go away. We will see. Never give up!
---Gudrun Haas
I want to thank you so very much for your sponsorship of the "Celebration of Peace" event in Naperville (The Inaugural Celebrations are slated from 6:30-9:30PM, Friday, September 7, 2007, in the Municipal Center). As you are aware, this is the first time this is being done in Naperville, and to be linked with a 'positive' upbeat and caring organization like yours means a lot to me and to our volunteers... I also wish to thank you for linking to our website. Can you please add the link (www.thinkglobalarts.org) using both "Celebration of Peace" and "ThinkGlobal Arts Foundation" as the keywords.... Hoping to meet with you soon,
---Revati Natesan
To the Daily Herald, Positively Naperville and the Naperville Sun: Maybe you three could put this in your respective papers! Hats off to our audiences for our summer season! Crowds over the 11-week season topped 35,000! The weather was great and the crowds were most appreciative. Top conductors and soloists from around the country were impressed with the concert center and the following that the band has here in Naperville. Thank you all, included the news media, for you continued support.
Ronald Keller, Conductor, Naperville Municipal Band
P.S. Now if we could just get lighted permanent washrooms and new seating, the venue would be complete!
Editor's Note: Congratulations! PN loves our Municipal Band with a history dating back to 1859! Be sure to see them perform in the Jaycees Last Fling Labor Day Parade on Sept. 3. www.napervilleband.org
Great news! Aimee and Joe had little Alivia Marie at 7:45am, Sat., Aug. 4, 2007. She weighed 7 pounds, 13 oz.at 21.5" in length. That puts us at 5 grandkids now. Caden Marley, Alana Nicollette, Robbie David , Trevor Brock and now showing, Alivia Marie. Take care.10-4.
---Tim Drendel
Loved the humor (regarding misplaced substitute recipe in the August column of DeLizious). Thanks for the time off, Boss!
---Liz Zienty, PN Columnist for DeLizious
Are you putting Mary Ann Bobosky's recipe in (PN) next time?
---Nancy Davis
Editor's Note: Yes. The August issue of PN had intended to include a guest recipe for shishkebabs. Unfortunately, the recipe was filed away under an unknown name in PN's computer. The recipe has been recovered, thanks to Mary Ann Bobosky who calls her main course "Shisk-ka-bobsky." Look for the recipe in addition to DeLizious by Liz Zienty in September.
Thank you so much for answering all my questions. You have been a big help! Please find the information about our upcoming PADS Run/Walk to raise funds to help end and prevent homelessness in DuPage County, beginning at 8AM on Sun., Sept. 9, 2007, at the DuPage PADS offices, 705 West Liberty in Wheaton.

I've been getting responses so you know your article was wonderful. Thank you. A few saw the Daily Herald one, too.

Editor's Note: Naperville High School Classmates of '47 are planning a reunion for all classmates from the '20s, '30s and '40s from 6-10PM, on Friday, Aug. 24. The party will be at the Judd Kendall VFW. For reservations, call 355-2779.
(Regarding reader comments about the lights at Moser Tower) Thanks for being so observant and for pointing out how beautifully illuminated the tower is now. The architectural lights are on two separate timers because of the load and come on at slightly different times. One timer controls the exterior wash lights on the outside poles and the other one controls the up-lights in the tower "windows" and the lantern at the top. I'll see if I can adjust them so they come on closer together. The time between the two switching on has been about five minutes.
---Chuck Seidel, a retired Brookdale Elementary School Principal and carillon enthusiast.
Editor's Note: The Moser Tower is located at Rotary Hill along the Riverwalk in downtown Naperville. The tower holds the 72-bell carillon, spanning six octaves, making it one of the largest in the world. For more information about accessibility, concerts and tours to the top of the 14-story structure, visit www.naperville-carillon.org.

Congratulations on another great issue (August) of Positively Naperville!
---Jan Schultz
Thank you so much for including us in this month's (August) edition! Packer Engineering did such a wonderful thing for us and we want everyone to know what wonderfully community-minded businesses there are in Naperville.
---Sherry Manschot , Western DuPage Special Recreation Association
Thank you for introducing me to your site. You have an amazing amount of information on it. I will visit it again when looking for an activity. Could you list The Growing Place Fall Harvest Festival September 15 & 16 at our Fox Valley/Aurora location on the calendar of events? What is the correct way to give you an event listing?
---Carol Massat, The Growing Place
Editor's Note: To submit event listing info to PN's monthly calendars, simply go to "Contact Us" and follow the prompts. Be sure to follow the order of input. Always begin with the date, followed by the name of the event, etc. And please include your e-mail address. Thank you.
I just picked up my copy of PN for Aug. Thank you so much for putting the picture and nice story in the August issue. I am sending a copy to my Grandmother. --- Erin O'Donnell
To Casey's Foods: I would like to comment on your pix and ad in Positively Naperville. And I wholeheartedly endorse your meat department. My only complaint is I am always down about 20 customers in line - - - - No, that's great!
1. Almost every summer we fly our plane up to Canada and take a float plane out for a week of fishing. We always order Red River hot cereal among the preordered groceries which are on the dock when we arrive. Although we are restricted on weight in our plane to fly home, we always allow for 1 box of Red River. No one carries it around here and I even went online, but needed to purchase a large quantity. Voila! I was thrilled to find it at your store. Thanks so much for carrying it.
2. Another item we like up in Canada is Malkins jam. In fact, when we refuel and go through customs at International Falls, they give you one jar of Malkins. Any possibility of carrying that?
3. And lastly, while at Traverse City last week for Interlochen board meeting, I went into a store there (www.folgarellis.com) and bought the best cheese I have ever tasted. They had little samples out to taste. It is called Old Quebec, 3-year aged Canadian cheddar. I looked at your cheeses but didn't find anything like this.
One last comment, when I ask any of your employees in the aisle for help, they are so polite. And I love it when they don't just point and say, over there, but walk you to the exact spot. Very nice.
---Bev Frier
I want to thank you for your work on Positively Naperville, I love the authenticity of it. I know it's not easy, truly talented people make the difficult things look easy, though. One of the nicest things is you have a connection to your subscribers, I cannot
tell you the difficulty I have had with other papers to just get a return phone call.
---Veronica Porter
It is our hope at the Naperville Area Humane Society that people will join together and send the message that dog fighting or any form of animal abuse will not longer be tolerated in our country. Let’s work together to end the vicious cycle of violence that exists in our society, forever!
---Linda L. Linford, Executive Director, Naperville Area Humane Society, 1620 West Diehl Road, (630) 420-8989, www.napervillehumanesociety.org
Did you happen to attend the Naperville Woman's Club Art Fair at Naper Settlement? Loaves & Fishes was honored by the NWC with an invitation to staff tables at entrance gates to distribute hunger awareness facts and collect a suggested voluntary donation of $2 from art lovers. Many patrons gave considerably above that figure, for which we are so grateful.
What a success the event was for us! The NWC helped us to raise more than $8,000. More than 1,500 Naperville families depend upon us for 4,000 bags of food each month! In the last fiscal year, we spent $180,000 to augment food so generously donated to the Pantry. Our average monthly food bill is $15,000, so the NWC Art Fair donations will help us pay half the food invoices for one month.
Our loyal volunteers were a big reason for our fundraising success. We were fortunate to have 27 enthusiastic supporters donate a total of 81 hours at our Art Fair tables. We would like to thank the NWC for giving us this golden opportunity, our volunteers for making time to help, and most of all the wonderful NWC Art Fair patrons who took our message to heart and donated.
Take care and thanks for publicizing the best of Naperville!
---Jody Bender , Contributions Coordinator , Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry
Thank you for your help to promote the German service at St.John UCC, at 11.30AM, every first Sunday in the month, on 1190 Olesen Dr. in Naperville. I always pick up several copies of your newspaper at Oswald's and pass it on to friends. They appreciate it. Keep up the good work to let us know about the many cultural events we have in Naperville. We are lucky to live here and there is never a dull moment in this town.
---Gudrun Haas with the German Service at St. John UCC.
A Daily Herald column (July 8, 2008) by editorial writer John Zimmerman reflects many of the thoughts of Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods, Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder. The book highlights some of the epidemics that now plague children, such as obesity and ADHD, a primary cause of which is the "disconnect" from nature. Apparently the research is now being done to prove your point, and the University of Illinois has been a leader in conducting such studies. Louv not only points out many of the problems that (to us of an older generation) seem obvious, but he also has some suggestions to solve the problems.
I've been suggesting the book to anyone who is responsible for children: parents, teachers, park district administrators, etc. (I even gave copies of the book to the President of the Board and interim Executive Director of the Naperville Park District.) At a recent family gathering, I recommended it to a nephew who is a teacher; I suggested he take it with him on his up-coming fishing trip to Canada. Then I tested some of Louv's observation on a younger nephew: As we were sitting in the lawn next to a grove of oak trees and the nephew was acting "bored", I suggested he go into the adjacent woods and build a fort. He looked at me like I'd just got off the bus from Roswell. He was more interested in the mega-transformer that he was about to receive as a birthday present.

I appreciate how much press you gave us when we first started our partnership with the YMCA as well as what you currently do. What fun to see our photo at the TODAY SHOW in the PN (July issue). Wow! ... Loved the way the poem turned out too. Thanks much.

Civic pride and participation are alive and well as evidenced by another successful River Sweep this year. The Conservation Foundation thanks the many volunteers and sponsors who made the DuPage River Sweep 2007 a success. This year, 375 volunteers cleaned nearly 7 tons of trash from 35 miles of stream and shoreline from Wood Dale to Plainfield. They canoed, waded and walked the shorelines of DuPage River and Salt Creek, their tributaries, and local detention ponds. Municipal employees, scout troops, church groups, families, and individuals participated from all parts of DuPage County as well as Bolingbrook, and Plainfield in Will County. Since the first clean-up in 1989, approximately 6,800 volunteers have removed 180 tons of garbage from our local streams.
Special thanks to Environmental Commission and municipal coordinators ... and co-sponsor Waste Management, Inc. and the following organizations for funding, goods and services they provided for the Sweep this year: DuPage Stormwater Management Division, Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, Magid Glove & Safety, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency SCALE Grant Program, and American Rivers, Inc. . Thanks go to Naperville Park District, Villa Park Public Works, City of Carol Stream, City of Wheaton, Village of Lisle, Lisle Park District, Village of Addison, Village of Bloomingdale, Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, Bolingbrook Park District, and the Village of Plainfield, for their support of the Sweep. ... We encourage all citizens to become more involved in improving the water quality of our streams.
Thank you for helping keep our local environment clean and healthy.
---Judy Fitchett, Director of Education and Outreach, The Conservation Foundation
I went online to your website and could find no mailing address? I clicked on "Subscribe to PN" and that link didn't have any address (nor cost). So that was a dead end.
I think your web site is great. Whoever does it, spends hours and hours on it. And it is very nice!
---Bev Patterson Frier
Editor's Note: Our e-mailing address is stephanie@positivelynaperville.com. The snail mail address is Positively Naperville, 931 W. 75th Street, suite 137/219, Naperville, IL 60565. Due to the expansion plans at Rosebud's, PN is no longer located in its tiny office in downtown Naperville.
Tabor Hills is having the first “Friendraising Event” on September 22, 2007 at the Judd Kendall VFW. The event will be a Hog Wild Pig Roast from 4PM to 7PM. Thank you for all of your help and support.

Thanks a million for running the press release for the Lions Club. (July issue of PN) Our members were very pleased. Have a Happy 4th of July.
---Mike Hollman, Naperville Noon Lions Club
I am a faithful reader of your Daily Herald column as well as of Positively Naperville. I always enjoy the personal touches you put into the Tuesday column—and the way you keep yourself out of PN. Is that the difference between a columnist and an publisher/editor? … Anyway, thanks for the help to publicize the Naperville Community Gardeners’ 27th Annual Flower and Garden Show, which will be held on Sat., August 25, at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson St. You have always been a strong supporter of our club, and we appreciate that.
---Eleanor Holt, Naperville Community Gardeners,
www.napervillecommunitygardeners.org
I always believe second-hand compliments are the best, and here's one for you. I was chatting with my new neighbor, Jan Morency, today, and she said she couldn't be happier living in Naperville. She moved here following several major problems in her family, and when she read her first issue of PN back in October, she was "thrilled to be a part of a community that had such a great outlook on things." I encouraged her to e-mail you her thoughts. Great job!
---Shirley
Here we are again, another year of summer band concert Park. As in past years you were able to find some space in your July issue of Positively Naperville. Hopefully, you'll be able to find some space once again. You have a great newspaper with its central theme Naperville. I'm very appreciative of all that you have published in past years with regards to the NMB Naperville Big Band. Thanks!
---Kenneth Kalina, Director NMB Naperville Big Band
Editor's Note: The annual NMB Naperville Big Band Concert will be held at the Community Concert Center in Central Park at 7:45PM, Thursday, July 12.
Your newspaper is good and I do not mind reading it, chasing it at my age is another thing though. The delivery man went past a short while ago, we live on Havenshire and dropped four on the curb in front of every set of townhomes along the street. Some are already blowing on the down the street and my guess is many people will not find out how nice a little paper you have.
---Edward Haas
Editor's Note: We appreciate it when our readers let us know of occasional mishaps in our Independent Delivery Service. Thanks, Mr. Haas.
My father in law sent this to us and it reminded me of the sandcastle competitions we saw when we lived in California. Do you think Naperville would ever do something like this at Centennial Beach?
Hi! My name is Kathy Snyder and I was secretary of the Sesquicentennial Commission. I have the notebook with all the minutes of all the meetings for the two years that we met for planning. We also have a large silk banner with the logo screen printed on it (it's about 50" square), white with black lettering. I would be happy to donate these... The Riverwalk is even more beautiful after the extension, as is the rest of the town. Thanks so much for all your efforts.
----Kathy Snyder
Naperville Nostalgia response to photo of Soukup's Hardware, a building now occupied by Roseland Draperies and Interiors: I used to do volunteer work for the Episcopal Church when it was on the hill on East Jefferson St. Whenever I needed something for the church, I would charge it at Soukup's Hardware and they would never send a bill.
One Sunday, I needed something for a task at my home and I called Frank Lisjak, the owner, at his home on Julian and Porter St. He said to come to his house and he would give me the keys to the store and to leave a note on the cash register saying what I took, which I did, and returned the keys to his house.
If you were in his store and he was waiting on you and the fire siren went off, he would tell you to wait. Then he would run out the front door and stop traffic at Washington and Jefferson until the fire engine went by.
If you asked for something at the store, you usually couldn’t find it. But Frank always could as he knew where everything was.
I still have a snow blower, which I purchased years ago at Soukup's. At that time it was not in stock, but Frank ordered it for me. And it is still running.
---Bill Frier, Submitted in response the Naperville Nostalgia, May 2007
On May 11, the Naperville Area Humane Society was blessed to receive the Small Business Award in the not-for-profit category from the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce. ...

And of course, our loyal donors and sponsors who believe in our mission and generously share their resources with us so that we may continue to succeed. ...
Finally, I would like to thank the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce. We have received many benefits through being a part of the organization and I am overwhelmed by the talent of the chamber staff.
Thanks to all of you again, on behalf of the thousands of children and animals whose lives we touch every year. Your support and understanding of our mission will sustain us now and help us work toward a future where we do see the cycle of violence end in our society, forever!

Thanks for the coverage of the Naperville Woman's Club donation. I need your help publicizing the Letter Carriers' Food Drive on May 12. Could you please mention it in the Overflow News on the PN website? ... I'd really appreciate it!

---Sandy Southworth,
Exchange Club Chairman of the Ervin Kendzora Book of Golden Deeds Awards
I sent an e-mail to another newspaper back in November asking for recognition of five boys and their achievement in reaching the rank of Eagle Scout. I hadn’t sent it to Positively Naperville since PN had already done a short mention of Bryan's Eagle Project for the Conservation Foundation. ... The other newspaper reports that they haven't had sufficient space to recognize the boys and their wonderful achievement.
Could you possibly direct me to the correct person / department to send this information to at Positively Naperville? As always, thanks for your help.
---Candy Jackson
Editor's Note: Every story in PN is brief---about 250 words. The publication typically previews upcoming events, but we will be happy to list the names of the five Eagle Scouts from Troop 317 and their outstanding accomplishments. Teens who earn the achievement of Eagle Scout indeed deserve recognition. Congratulations to Eagle Scouts Bryan Jackson, Scott Jackson, Anthony Lukaszewski, Matt Mercado and Matt Fuchs.
The Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club had their first dinner dance, Dancing in the Moonlight, on Saturday April 28, and it was a success! We raised $2,200.00 for Families Helping Families and had a fun time in the process. We danced the night away to the band, Dirty Ernie, had a delicious dinner at Cress Creek Country Club and the raffle winners were thrilled to collect their extravagant prizes. We had such a great time that we'll be having a dinner dance next year as well as a fashion show. . . . more fun, more funds raised for charity... I wanted to thank you again for all the space you gave us. It was very much appreciated.
---Sue Maloney, Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club
Thank you so much for the ad and write up (May Edition) for the Run for Reading!!!!! I already received a call from someone who saw the write-up. I hope you will be able to join us race day. Thanks again!
---Mary E. Bazan
Pat Murphy is Brendan’s Pony League coach this year. At the opener, he had Mayor Pradel there, and a local Army soldier that is home from Iraq throwing out the first pitch. He also had the lead singer from Joe’s Garage Band sing the National Anthem. I have pictures of all of it. It was pretty neat – not sure if it is news worthy enough for a spot in your paper!
---Bud Montgomery
Editor's Note: That's just the kind of news we want in PN! Look for the photos on our Naperville Nostalgia pages in the near future.
I appreciate your efforts to bring the real news.
---Rosemary Wisnosky
Our Community United Methodist Church Pass Along Plant sale will be on June 2. I hope there is time to get an article in Positively Naperville. Thank you for all your help these last years.

Answer to Naperville Nostalgia / April 2007
L-R. Erica Carter, Tiffany Hudson, Andy Nussbaum, Candace Parker, Rachel Crissy, Loren Grochowski.
We used to take the girl's basketball team to Lou Malnatti's at the end of every season.
To date we have watched Tiffany play basketball at Illinois State, Rachel skate for the women's hockey team at Providence when they played at the University of Wisconsin, and we will go to Binghampton to see Erica, and to Myrtle Beach to see Loren play.
Last year we went to Kentucky and Notre Dame to watch Candace and this year Elaine and I went to the final four women's tournament in Cleveland to watch Candace. Tiffany and her mother were there also.
Erica's parents watched Candace in Dayton in the regionals.
They were a great basketball team and were equally as great as young ladies.
---Charlie Brown
I'm looking for the date of your summer art fair. Thanks.

This letter is to thank Mary Corrigan for inspiring my business partner and me with her article about book donations. Philip Rae Corporation recently contacted us looking to donate a large quantity of children's books procured from a retail liquidation. They thought we might know where to donate the books because of our involvement with the Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Fund for Literacy.
That same day, I came across Mary's article about donating books to the local community. Within a week, Mary had picked up the books and distributed two boxes of school age children's books and picture books to NCO Youth and Family Services, one box of picture books to Edward Hospital's Pediatric Unit, three boxes of a mix of children's picture books, nonfiction books and school age children's books to Little Friends for their programs and/or resale shop, two boxes of picture books to Family Shelter Services, one box picture books to Copley's Pediatric Unit and the last box of picture books to a preschool for ESL children at risk.
Thank you to you and your staff for continuing to highlight opportunities for us to support the community that we live in.
---Lynda W. Reilly, Lynmar Lending Group, Inc.
Would it be possible to have Liz' recipes online at PN? That would save me from having to type them to keep in my recipe folder on my computer.
Also, if you would put the link at the bottom of her recipe in the paper, then readers would be forced to go to your wonderful web site.

I am planning our 60th high school class of '47 reunion on August 24, 2007. We are having a three-day affair, but I think Friday night will be very special and of high interest. We are going to extend an invitation to all NHS REDSKINS, and spouses, that graduated from high school in the 30's and 40's. Needless to say, to newcomers in town, that sounds like a mob, but Naperville still was in the 5,000 population range, so there really aren't that many left in our present huge metropolis.
We'll be giving special recognition to those killed in wars, sadly, and happily honoring those over 90 who attend. It is absolutely free unless some want to purchase a meal.
I'd love to have just a little mentioned now, but then for the August edition, I'd give you more.
---Dee Schumacher, NHS, Class of 1947
Thanks for including the picture of the boys in the most recent PN. That’s very exciting for the knuckleheads!
---Mike Van Poucke
We love your publication and read it front to back each month. Great job!
Yes, they (2004 IHSA Class AA State Champions--- Rachel Crissy, Candace Parker, Tiffany Hudson, Erica Carter and Lauren Grochowski---pictured in April Naperville Nostalgia) were a fun, talented, and special group.
I played major college baseball, scouted with the Reds, and coached college baseball. I've seen lots of good and bad things by individuals and within teams.
The most impressive thing was how completely unaffected this group was with the craziness that swirled around them. They came out of NCHS as the same people they were as freshman. They never seemed too impressed with themselves despite their accomplishments.
I look forward to the next issue of PN....and we all got a laugh out of your Charlie Brown comment. What a nice couple and they sure loved the Redhawks!!!
Thank you very much for helping us to get the word out about the 2nd Annual Dance Showcase,
Tuesday, May 15, at the College of DuPage Arts Center Mainstage in Glen Ellyn (www.kbmf.net). I would also like to thank you for putting the information in PN about Kathryn's Chocolate Thursdays Cookbook. They have been very popular. I guess everyone likes chocolate! Thank you for your support.
---Doris Bender
Very cool and informative website! I will have to use it especially in late spring and summer when my family comes into Naperville frequently.
---Steve Luckman, Carpenter's Place Aurora, www.cpaurora.org
I'm not sending anything in or requesting anything, but I wasn't quite sure how else to contact you. For a school-related assignment, I am supposed to find where the old cow tunnel is located. I know that its near the train station and I think it might be at 12th and Main, and given your Naper Nostalgia site, I think maybe you could help me out. Thanks.
Recently your newspaper published an article titled “Community First presents first Design Recognition Award” in the March 2007 edition. I thought it was a great article, especially since I am the one who won the award. I was hoping that you might be able to send me a copy of that article that I can display in my office. Please contact me and let me know if this is a possibility. Thank you for your time.
---Christopher Derrick, Derrick Designs Architecture, www.derrickdesigns.net
I got my issue of Positively today, and it's great, as usual. I got a kick out of Dave Sinker's article and plan to respond. Actually, when I was a kid, there were elks in Elk Grove. Sadly, that all changed when the airport was built--first called "Orchard Field", and re-named "O'Hare Airport" in 1949.
---Shirley Pace
April is National Animal Cruelty Prevention month. Last year we ran a very successful and FUN 'virtual adopt-a-thon.' We had a couple dozen local folks up for adoption on our Web site, and we raised over $10,000. This year, we're looking to make the event even more fun and more successful in furthering our mission. This year's event will take place in April to coincide with cruelty prevention month. I'm wondering if there's anything you and your gang at Positively Naperville would be willing to do to help us promote the event in March and April?
When I heard through a colleague at Sports Illustrated that family member, Roger Wehrli, is going to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame a couple things came to mind. One, why did I not hear of the news from my father and uncles first (to protect their privacy, they will go unnamed; though if you run into Don and Jean Wehrli, please ask that they reprimand their sons.)? And two, this is JUST the story for PN!
I love receiving my issues in NYC (thanks to my dear Aunt Nummy!) and after dutifully reading “Ed’s Many Hats” (a must read and my personal favorite) I leave it on the subway so the next New Yorker may be inspired by all things positive in Naperville, IL! I should also mention that I live a ½ block away from one of the most acclaimed cake shops in the city – Creative Cakes, started by our very own Stephanie Penick! It all goes to show you that yes, it really is a small world after all.
Thanks PN for keeping me connected to my roots and for constantly reminding me why I’m proud to call Naperville “home”…regardless of where I may physically reside!
---Sarah Wehrli, Transplanted in Manhattan
Thanks for continuing to send us the monthly paper. We LOVE feeling connected to Naperland.
Naperville is a thriving community, and a great place for success. Questions like, how do I advertise my services with the greatest number of results, come to mind when enhancing my business. Positively Naperville was my first stop. Now I just need the next step.
---Miguel A. Rosas Editor’s Note: We welcome all inquiries! For information about advertising e-mail ads@positivelynaperville.com with your name and phone number. Our advertising representative will contact you promptly.
Thanks for your support of NAHC overall, our Trade Show, meetings and Candidate Forums. Without the great NAHC Board of Directors we have, this growth for us would not be possible and the support from the media like you and others really helps. Thanks.
---Chuck Schlabach, President of the Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation
Thank you for giving us a forum to recognize this awesome organization, the Naperville Woman's Club!
---Jody Bender, Contributions Coordinator, Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry, 556 W. Fifth Ave.
I got my Positively today, and thanks loads. It was an issue well worth waiting for. It seems impossible to me that it just keeps getting better and better!
---Shirley Pace
Hey, a cute PN story for you. My parents who live in Hinsdale were at Egg Harbor before Christmas and had to wait so there were reading an issue of PN and saw my name and something about the Riverwalk Documentary. (Premiering at City Hall at 7PM, March 1). They were very thrilled and when their friends arrived, they showed them. Very cool! You do a great job!
---Elizabeth Braham Spencer
We recently moved to Naperville and are interested in receiving the paper regularly- can we set up subscription with you here online? Otherwise I will mail the form in the paper. Please advise. Thank you.
-Eric
Editor's Note: Currently there is no way to subscribe online. In the past, we offered online order service, but took the service off because of little use. In the future, we many revisit offering that convenience to our readers. A form on page 2 of the publication provides the opportunity to subscribe for $25/year. Or send name and address with check to Positively Naperville, 931 W. 75th Street, Suite 137/219, Naperville, IL 60565.
Ladies and Gentlemen! You must view this Web site featuring a video of the Center for the Intrepid, a recently opened rehabilitation center to assist the wounded service members and their families. Never forget our wounded men and women who are fighting to lead normal lives. ALL GAVE SOME. SOME GAVE ALL!
---Mike Barbour
The February issue looks fabulous! Thank you so much for giving us so much
publicity; we are really hoping for a good crowd.
---Sue Rickert, North Central College
Just a reminder about our last couple of coffees of the season, and the date for the summer coffee: Monday, March 5; Monday, April 2 and Monday, July 23.
I can't believe that we're already looking ahead to the middle of summer! It can't come soon enough for me with this winter weather. Anyway, keep warm this week! Thank you.
---Sue Maloney, Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club
I really enjoy Positively Naperville and I would it enjoy it a lot more if you had some type of puzzle.
---Terry Verhoeven
Editor's Note: Thanks to this reader's suggestion, Positively Naperville will begin a feature this month called PN Puzzler on PAGE 29. Test your skills by solving these mind games. The answers will be posted all month on the PN Web site and in the following month's issue. PN appreciates suggestions and comments from our readers!
Many thanks again for mentioning my book (Lone Feather and the Settlers) in your latest issue of Positively Naperville. Clever title of the article, too!
Norris and I continue to have fun at those events---five so far and three on the calendar. Grace Church has invited me back for a second one.
By the way, we found your January issue column, "Snowbirds Leave Safely" (by Marita Manning), was a great keepsake and we have placed it in our files.
Viva la PN!

Is there anyway I can get a Cock Robin T-shirt if you have any leftover?

NAPERVILLE NOSTALGIA ANSWER FOR JANUARY 2007: This float was in the 1997 Labor Day Parade brilliantly chaired by Francie Chirico. Friends of the Riverwalk were celebrating the life-giving flow of the waters of the DuPage River and honoring the cows who drank there during the early years when Naperville was a farming community. The Brown Swiss bovine skeleton of champion breeder Ione Cinderella III was displayed among sweet-smelling hay bales and vibrant, green corn stalks. Long blue cloths undulating in the hands of volunteers and a graceful belly dancer accompanied the float symbolizing the gentle, summer motion of the river. Tim Drendel provided the flatbed, Ron Brigel the 1952 John Deere 60 tractor (driven by young Michael Wehrli), and Herb Nadelhoffer the skeleton which was saved from his diary. Many friends walked along hoisting signs or corn stalks. On the left is belly dancer Rachel Borcher, the child squatting next to her is Chelsea Steck. How fortunate we are today to have a well-built, beautiful Riverwalk to bring people closer to nature and to each other. ... Thanks for the memory! It was an especially vivid and happy time as the parade was the day after our wedding!
---Mary Lou Wehrli
I saw our ad for the dinner dance in your January edition and was very happy with what you did with it. It was passed around our board meeting today and everyone loved it! Thank you!
---Sue Maloney, Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club
The phone's been ringing off the hook since January's Positively Naperville came out with the story about "The trolleys are still coming." It's amazing! We're now into an April delivery date! Thought you'd want to know how many people are reading! THANKS!
---Gail Andrews, Owner of the Canterbury Shoppe

Last night some of the ladies in my neighborhood went out to drive around and look at Christmas lights. We toured the neighborhood listed in your directions and then we drifted over to Rosecroft Lane. Wow! What a fun house!
---Becky Simon
I saw on WGN news about a sub division in Naperville that has 130 homes decorated for Christmas and on Monday the mayor and a few other people will be juding these homes. I live 60 miles south of Naperville near Morris and am wondering if you can help me locate that subdivision? I think it had 2 or 3 words and ended in Knoll? My family loves to drive around and look at lights this time of year. Thank You.
---Cindy Bingheim
Editor's Note: The entire town of Naperville is aglow with lights! You can begin at Jefferson and Washington to see the 350,000 bright white lights in the downtown grand illumination and almost any direction you go, it's colorful!
The subdivision is Penn Cross Knoll near Tall Grass west of Route 59 off 95th Street.
Plan a trip and you can spend hours driving around from subdivision to subdivision.
Thanks for contacting Positively Naperville! Come and enjoy.Your family will love it! Happy Holidays!
At this special time of being thankful, we just wanted to thank YOU for all that you have done in helping promote our company “Myles Above Productions” with our partnership with the Fry Family YMCA. ... We truly appreciate all that you have done to spread the great word to the Naperville community about us! ...
May you have the happiest of holidays and we wish you continued success in the New Year!
---Kathy Myles, Myles Above Productions
I loved Mary Lou Wehrli's animal? pix. She's a lot of fun!

December Naperville Nostalgia Photo ID: The tennis Pro is Martina Navratilova and she visited Naperville in 1977. (11/29/2006 5:10:10 P.M. CST)
---Susan Kursar
Congratulations on five years of Positively Naperville. As I have told you in person, the concept is wonderful, and the issues are always uplifting. All communities should do something positive like this.
Your editorial in the December issue was especially meaningful. By dedicating a page to positive opinions and ways to seek solutions for the challenges that unite us, your newspaper will continue to do an important service locally. It is the ability to seek good solutions through volunteer efforts that has set Naperville apart and continues to make it an exceptional place to call "home."
---Jini Clare, Clare Communications
We always appreciate your help. Thanks again. I will have one more press release with more information about the guest performers (Holiday concert "Christmas Presence," 7PM, Sat., Dec. 9, at Wesley United Methodist Church). Happy Holidays!

Thanks for your assistance with running releases for our events this year. On behalf of the Naperville Noon Lions club, I want to wish you and everyone at Positively Naperville a very Happy Holiday Season.
---Mike Hollman, Naperville Noon Lions Club
I remember reading in a past issue about an organization that needed mattresses. We have an extra king size mattress in good condition that we would like to donate if still needed. Any chance someone remembers the name of that organization? I want to say it was in an issue over the summer.
Just thought I'd check - any info you have would be appreciated! Thanks!
---Chadeana
Editor's Note: The organization is The Sharing Connection, a nonprofit business that collects furniture, household items and bedding for low-income families that qualify. The phone number is 971-0565, ext. 224.
Thanks for running our release with the photo (Noon Lions Club Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K at 8AM, Nov. 23, at NCHS). We really appreciate your ongoing support.
---Mike Hollman, Naperville Noon Lions Club
Loved my (November) issue of PN again...wouldn't miss it for the world!
---Shirley Pace
I was on your website (still the best collection of websites anywhere!) and then I was going to go to ours, and it came up that it could not be found. It was listed as www.nctv17.org - it's www.nctv17.com. I know it had been correct before. I'm guessing that when the government link got added that is right by ours, it accidentally got changed. If you could switch it back to
.com, we'd really appreciate it.
---Nancy Wiersum, Community Development Director, NCTV-17
Answer to November Naperville Nostalgia: The photo is of Rita Fredenhagen Harvard with her son and grandchildren. Rita's parents were the owners of Cock Robin.

I just got my October "Positively Naperville" yesterday. Thank you so much for the great coverage on the Naperville Area Humane Society's annual gala, "Black Cat Ball." It's a wonderful event, and we're thrilled to be featured in your publication!
---Heather Wachter, Past President, Naperville Area Humane Society
What a nice job you did on the Riverwalk Foundation Breakfast backpage in Positively Naperville!
---Chuck George
My wife and I would like to recommend Sizzle India as our favorite restaurant in Naperville. We happen to like Indian food and have made it a point to eat a dinner at all Indian restaurants in the local area. We now regularly come to the Saturday evening buffet where we can always find a wonderful array of dishes and our total cost for a dinner for two is under $30.
