Personal connections make the world a better place.

After Sept. 11, 2001, David Eigenberg, now an actor in New York, told family and friends in his hometown about the Red Hook Raiders, one of five firehouses in Brooklyn's 32nd Battalion.  Located near the end of the Battery Tunnel, this firehouse was one of the first companies to respond to the
attack on the WTC.

On that day, Ladder 101 lost all seven men who answered that call. Their brothers from Engine 202, who also answered that call, were uninjured. Both the engine and ladder trucks were destroyed.

In recent months, Naperville has joined other communities across the nation with a positive response to help.

In December 2001, Positively Naperville visited the Red Hook Firehouse.Coincidentally, on the day of the visit, firefighters were sending "thank you" cards to citizens throughout the nation for their generous donations and prayers.  Many of the mailing labels were addressed to Naperville residents.

In February 2002, many of the firefighters' financial needs were met by local service agencies in new York.  Acknowledging with great appreciation the outpouring from Naperville to the families at the Redhook Firehouse, members of Ladder 101/Engine 202 asked that funds be diverted to benefit the 9-11 Memorial in Naperville.

To donate tax-deductable funds to the Navy Commander Dan Shanower/9-11 Memorial Fund, please send contributions to 9/11 Fund, Finance Dept., City of Naperville, P.O. Box 3020, Naperville, IL 60566-7020.  Thank you.

Here is a photo of Engine 202 , Ladder 101, Battalion 32 taken on the Red Hook Pier with Manhattan in background. The World Trade Center Twin Towers would have been seen standing tall over the lower left side of Manhattan. The Empire State Building can be seen at the far right side. Hope you all enjoy seeing this photo.
