Thoughts for the day and week!
2010 Mayor’s Golf Outing at Springbrook celebrated 30 years of giving back to local charities
When local residents stepped up to the tee on Mon., Sept. 13, 2010, they  marked the 30th anniversary of the Naperville Mayor’s Golf Outing. This annual event was started in 1980 with Mayor Chet Rybicki and Bill Brestal of Dommermuth, Brestal, Cobine & West Ltd.

“This began as a means to allow the Mayor the opportunity to give back charitably throughout the year.  We felt a golf outing would be a fun way of doing that,” said Brestal in a press release.

The very first golf outing was held at Cress Creek Country Club with 125 golfers. Brestal remembers that “back then, it was all about friends and fun – we never cared if you could golf, as long as you were having a good time and giving back to our community.”

The golf outing also found a home at White Eagle Golf Club for many years.

Today as back then, all levels of golfers continue to be welcome to the annual event held on the second Monday in September by the current Naperville mayor.

Over 30 years, the Mayor's Golf Outing hosted by four different Naperville mayors Chet Rybicki, Peg Price, Sam Macrane and George Pradel has raised more than $1.5 million for worthy causes.

In 2010, golfers were swinging for DuPage Children’s Museum, Little Friends, Inc., Our Children’s Homestead, Safety Town, Samaritan Interfaith, Turning Pointe Autism Foundation, and the YMCA’s Strong Kid’s Campaign.

Members of those organizations also served as  volunteers during the day and the awards dinner that evening.

Individuals and businesses supported this event either through golfing, sponsoring, or donating a raffle prize.

For more information about the 2011 Mayor’s Golf Outing, June likely would be a time to contact Dommermuth, Brestal, Cobine & West Ltd. at (630) 355-5800.

Again! The Mayor's Golf Outing, capped by dinner, is held annually on the second Monday in September.  Save September 12, 2011.  This page will provide complete details when they become available.  Watch for ads in summer issues of Positively Naperville that promote this event.

Vito Spadavecchio of Palatine became the instant owner of a 2012 Acura TL Sedan from Continental Acura of Naperville when he shot a hole-in-one during the Edward Foundation’s 18th annual Charity Golf Outing on August 8 at Cress Creek Country Club in Naperville.

Spadavecchio, an experienced golfer who also shot a hole-in-one in 2005, used a 5-iron to ace the 162-yard 3rd hole.

The Charity Golf Outing is one of the major fundraisers of the year for the Foundation, which supports Edward Hospital’s community healthcare initiatives, including free services and health and wellness programs; centers of excellence like Edward Heart Hospital and Edward Cancer Center and programs that make Edward unique, like the Ronald McDonald Family Room.

To make a donation to or for more information about the Foundation, contact Meghan Moreno, executive director, at (630) 527-5956 or visit www.edward.org/foundation.
