SUMMER CONCERT SERIES. The Naperville Municipal Band will perform a free concert at 7:45 p.m. every Thursday evening starting June 5 at Community Concert Center , 55 Concert Lane . RECYCLING PROGRAM. The city’s popular one-day recycling program will once again take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 at Naperville North High School , 899 N. Mill Street . The following items will be accepted: electronics, books, scrap metal, cell phones, ink jet cartridges, flags, eye glasses, hearing aids, keys and bicycles. DOG DISC CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Naperville Park District is holding a canine dog disc championship on Sunday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, located west of Centennial Beach . DOWNTOWN NAPERVILLE CUSTOM HOME TOUR. On the weekends of May 30-June 1 and June 6-8, the Live Downtown Naperville Partnership will sponsor the Downtown Naperville Custom Home Tour to benefit Naper Settlement. On each day, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., participants can tour 19 homes priced from $1.3 to 2.5 million in the downtown Naperville area. Tickets are $15 in advance and are available at Naper Settlement; the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce; Roseland Draperies, 204 S. Washington St.; and online at www.livedowntownnaperville.com beginning April 1. Tickets will also be available for $20 the day of the event. KITE FESTIVAL. The Naperville Park District is hosting its second annual Frontier Park Kite Festival at Frontier Park , 3380 Cedar Glade Drive , on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature Chicago Kite, Sparling Kite Entertainment, Chromatic Kites and Illinois Kite Enthusiasts. ANNUAL RIVERWALK FLOWER BULB SALE . The Naperville Park District will be selling tulip bulbs that were planted along the Riverwalk on Friday, May 16 at 8 a.m. at the Riverwalk Pavilion, located south of the Naperville Park District’s Administrative Building parking lot, 320 W. HOMEOWNERS CONFEDERATION MEETING. The Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation will meet on Saturday, May 17 at 8 a.m. in meeting rooms A, B and C of the Naperville Municipal Center , 400 S. Eagle St . The meeting will focus on legal responsibilities and protection for individual homeowners and homeowners associations. The meeting will include information on parental responsibility laws. COMMUNITY SHRED DAY. The City of Naperville ’s Elderly Services Team is partnering with Cintas to provide Community Shred Day on Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Safety Town parking lot, 1320 Aurora Ave. People can drive up and drop off up to two boxes of documents for secure destruction on site. The Naperville Police Department and the Elderly Services Team will distribute identity theft prevention information and participants are eligible for a grand prize raffle of a shredder. CIVIL WAR DAYS. Experience history like never before during Civil War Days, taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18 at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St . The entire 13-acre site is turned into a Civil War encampment with more than 300 reenactors portraying the past. Meet the legends of the era as you come face-to-face with President Abraham Lincoln, talk strategy with Generals Grant and Lee and hear tales of the Underground Railroad from Harriet Tubman. Cannons roar and a battle takes place at 2:30 p.m. each day. Enlist with the troops, enjoy music and magic of the time, hear historic presentations and shop on “Sutlers Row.” Tickets are $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6.50 for youth ages 4-17. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE. The Memorial Day parade will take place on Monday, May 26 in downtown Naperville beginning at 10:30 a.m. Organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, it is one of the largest parades in the upper Midwest with more than 100 units, including 27 bands. HISTORIC TROLLEY TOURS . In honor of Naperville ’s Community Heritage Month, Naperville Trolley & Tours is offering two historic trolley tours of Naperville on Sunday, May 11 at noon and 1:30 p.m. The one-hour tour meets at Jackson and Webster Streets. The cost is $8 for children and $5 for adults. Reservations are required. PATRIOT CEMETERY MARKER REDEDICATION. The cemetery marker of Israel Warner, a Revolutionary War patriot who moved to Illinois with his family in the early 1800s, has been restored and will be rededicated at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at Big Woods Cemetery on Eola Road , just south of Butterfield Road . Warner is one of only 15 Revolutionary War soldiers buried in the northern Illinois area. Joining in the ceremony will be representatives from Naper Settlement and the Naperville Heritage Society, as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Sons of the American Revolution and the Fox Valley Genealogical Society. COMMUNITY HERITAGE MONTH. The City of Naperville and several of its local partners are joining together to celebrate the city’s heritage throughout the month of May with a program of events meant to educate the community about the diverse aspects of Naperville ’s history. SPECIAL CENSUS ENUMERATORS WANTED. In the near future, the U.S. Census Bureau will conduct a special census in Naperville . 175 local residents age 18 and older are needed to work as census takers. Census takers visit households and collect a few facts about each member, such as name, age and relationship to the householder. Census takers are paid $13.75 per hour, plus mileage and paid training. If interested, visit www.naperville.il.us/specialcensus.aspx to register with the city and have a job application e-mailed to you. A job description fact sheet is available at that Web address, as well as more information about the job application process. Also needed are crew leaders who will receive $15.25 per hour and clerical staff who will be paid $10.50 an hour.

GARBAGE CARTS AVAILABLE. Under the city’s voluntary garbage cart program, residents have their choice of purchasing, for a one-time fee, a 32-gallon (two bags, $42), 68-gallon (four bags, $54) or 95-gallon (six bags, $59) cart. Delivery is available for an additional $10 fee. Garbage carts can be purchased online at www.naperville.il.us or at the Municipal Center ( 400 S. Eagle St. ), Public Works ( 414 E. Fifth Ave. ) or Community Connection ( 535 Fairway Dr .).
SUPPORT RENEWABLE ENERGY. The City of Naperville , in partnership with Community Energy, is offering a voluntary program that allows all residential and commercial utility customers within Naperville to purchase emission-free, renewable sources of electricity from wind, sun and water. GARBAGE COLLECTION REMINDER. The city would like to remind residents that garbage must be placed on the curb for collection by 6 a.m. on your garbage collection day. Empty containers must be removed from the curb following collection by 7 p.m. on your garbage collection day.
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA AVAILABLE ONLINE. Residents can access the entire City Council agenda packet online, which contains detailed information on every agenda item that will be considered by the Naperville City Council at its upcoming meeting. WCNC is the City of Naperville ’s government access channel (Channel 6 on Wide Open West and Channel 10 on Comcast) that services over 40,000 households and over 100,000 residents within the city. “ Naperville ’s Hometown Channel” provides government-based audio/video programming and services to inform our residents about city government policies, services, events, initiatives and programs. ILLINOIS WORKS COALITION. Mayor A. George Pradel and the City of Naperville are proud to support the mission of the Illinois Works Coalition, a bipartisan public/private partnership made up of business, labor and government leaders throughout the state working toward Illinois General Assembly passage of a comprehensive capital improvement program. The proposed $25 billion program lays out the plan for investment in the state’s schools, roads, bridges, airports, transit systems and more.
