Look for the big red door to enter!

(Naperville, IL)…From 9AM to 5PM on Saturday, April 28, 2018, families are welcome to join DCM and friends from the Bristol Renaissance Faire for a rollicking romp back in time! Complete with magic and merriment, experience and explore some great STEAM moments in history from Galileo’s astronomy to Michelangelo’s painting and Da Vinci’s inventions. Visitors are encouraged to come in costume!

“The Renaissance is the perfect place to explore STEAM-focused educational activities. Where else could someone build a flying machine, paint a masterpiece, discover a new law of physics, and then see a play! That time period embodies much of what is so exciting about living and learning in the modern world, where interdisciplinary education is as important as it was back then. We hope you can join us! Huzzah!” said Thomas Sullivan, Director of Education and Programs at DuPage Children’s Museum.

Visitors will enjoy Bristol Renaissance Faire performers throughout the Museum, Blacksmith Demos by Naper Settlement Educator and Cracked Anvil blacksmith Justin Stech, Catapult Launching, Upside Down Art, Castle Building, Fairy Tale Story Time at 2:30PM and more.

Jabberwocky Marionettes at 10AM, 11:30AM & 1PM

Jabberwocky Marionettes will perform The Last Dragon, A Heroic Puppet Comedy, which is an adventure featuring brilliant onstage bits, original music with live sound, and handmade marionettes. Once upon a time an unlikely young hero is asked for help by a talking bird. The hero accepts and the West Wind takes them to the other side of the world, to the Land of the Elves, in search of…. a Dragon, the very last dragon. Unexpected hilarity ensues on the quest, and friendship wins the day! Performances will take place at 10AM, 11:30AM and 1PM.

Dragon Parade prior to puppets / Prepare youngsters for make-believe

A Dragon Parade will take place 15 minutes prior to each puppet performance. A larger-than-life dragon marionette will weave around exhibits on the main floor to “lead” people to the performance.

Alix Tonsgard, DCM’s Early Learning Specialist, offered advice, “This could be a scary experience for some little ones. Developmentally, young children are not yet able to separate fantasy from reality so they may not understand that the dragon is not real. Prepare for your visit by talking about what you are going to see, look at pictures, and have a discussion. While in the Museum, tune into your child’s signals. Some will be OK with gentle reassurance, but for others it may be best to leave the area.”

Admission to the DuPage Children’s Museum is $12 for adults and children age 1 and older, and $10 for seniors; it’s free for members and children less than a year. Check DCM’s website for more information at www.dupagechildrens.org.
