On April 2, 2018, members of the Naperville Police Department Special Operations Group received information regarding suspicious subjects traveling to Naperville from California on an Amtrak train.
The train was scheduled to arrive shortly after 2PM and it was believed the subjects might be transporting a large quantity of cannabis. The subjects were observed exiting the train in Naperville and contact was made a short time later by Special Operations Group detectives. A canine alerted on the bags utilized by both subjects and as a result a search of their luggage was conducted. A total of approximately 52 pounds of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $230,000, was recovered.
The investigation led to the arrest of David Gordon, 56, of Sacramento, California, who was charged with one Class X felony for Cannabis Trafficking and one Class 1 felony for Possession of Cannabis Over 5,000 grams. Gordon was transported to the DuPage County Jail and his bond was set at $150,000, with 10% to apply.
The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
