Exchange Club will host ‘One Nation Under God’ Breakfast on April 14

-

Above /  For many years, the Exchange Club of Naperville has enlisted the help of the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 and the Naperville Amercian Legion Post 43 to assist whenever its One Nation Under God Breakfast has been held at Meson Sabika.

The Exchange Club of Naperville has announced that the 2018 “One Nation Under God Breakfast” will be held beginning at 9AM on Saturday, April 14, in the Pavilion of Meson Sabika.

The fence along Book Road at 103rd Street displays the same message as the Exchange Club’s annual breakfast.

The purpose of this breakfast is to increase public appreciation for the important roles that religious faith and freedom have played in our nation’s history, organizers say.  At this event, several members of the community will be honored for their contributions to the American spirit that permeates throughout Naperville with signs of patriotism north, east, west and south in the community.

Cantigny is located at 1 S 151 Winfield Road, Wheaton.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Colonel Paul Herbert, Executive Director of the 1st Division Museum at Cantigny Park, located in Wheaton.

A West Point graduate, Colonel Herbert holds a Ph.D. in History from the Ohio State University and is a graduate of the U.S Army War College. Colonel Herbert held a variety of operational assignments, including command of the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry, and service on the Joint Staff in Washington, D.C.

Did you know?  Oliver “Judd” Kendall, after whom the Naperville VFW Post 3873 is named, was part of the 1st Division. Kendall was killed in 1918 during World War I in the Battle of Cantigny in France.

Awards named to honor Abraham Lincoln, American Spirit and the American Flag

Awards will be presented in several categories, including Abraham Lincoln Award, American Spirit Award and Proudly We Hail Award, according to Exchangite Ron Amato who serves on the club’s Americanism Committee.

The Abraham Lincoln Award is reserved for an individual, group or organization that has impacted the history of the community; they are known for their humble beginnings, their words, their deeds, their dedication and their sacrifice. For 2018, the recipient is the 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army.

The American Spirit Award acknowledges members of the community whose actions demonstrate a commitment to a CAN DO spirit in their work and interactions with others.  The recipients are Karen Dunford, MGySgt. David Szablewski and Lucy Westlake.

The Proudly We Hail Award honors those Americans who display the nation’s banner properly and regularly. Several Naperville families and businesses will be honored.
