The 22nd Annual International Festival, “Around the Corner, Around the World,” will be held noon to 4PM Sunday, February 11 at Merner Field House, 450 South Brainard St. on the campus of North Central College.
Founded in 1996 by the International Committee of Naperville’s YMCA, the festival has continued to fulfill its original mission to highlight and celebrate the cultural diversity of the Naperville community. After taking over the sponsorship of the festival, North Central College’ s Center for Global Education has kept audiences returning every year to enjoy four major activities: educational booths; dance performances and demonstrations; language immersion booths; and a raffle from downtown Naperville businesses.
This year, the festival will feature traditional dances from Taiwan, Germany, India, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Spain. Over 20 educational booths will represent local organizations, and the College’ s international students will welcome children and families to join them in 30-minute cultural and language immersion booths, conducted entirely in Arabic, German, Japanese, and Spanish.
All festival participants receive passports for children to have stamped at each booth, where families are engaged in educational conversations and activities. The festival offers opportunity for community members to learn about, appreciate and celebrate the mosaic of cultures in the area.
Admission is $7 at the door. $5 tickets may be purchased in advance through the North Central College Center for Global Education, 48 East Jefferson Ave.
